This restaurant was reviewed in the February 2005 LVA; some of the information contained in this review may no longer be accurate. We wouldn’t call this a Las Vegas institution--it hasn’t been around long enough--but it’s the top spot in town for Cuban food. Located on Las Vegas Blvd. about a half-mile north of Stratosphere, Florida Cafe serves up Cuban preparations of beef, chicken, and seafood, all for under $16. Try picadillo aceitunado (Cuban beef hash), pollo a la plancha (seasoned chicken breast with peppers), or a Cubano, the famous sandwich from Cuba combining roast pork, ham, cheese, and pickles. Most plates come with the island’s staple white rice and black beans. Hours are 7 a.m.-10 p.m., seven days a week.
