LVA Review

This buffet was re-reviewed in the August 2020 LVA when the hotel was still named South Coast; some of the information contained in this review may no longer be accurate.

If you want to include a buffet in your dining itinerary, this is the least expensive of the three options by far at $9.95 for breakfast, $11.95 for lunch, and $18.95 for dinner Sun.-Thurs. when you show a players card ($3 more without the card). The next least expensive option at Cosmo is almost twice the price of the South Point dinner. We went for breakfast for a couple reasons. First, breakfast is unique in that it comes with unlimited Bloody Marys and we wanted to see how that’s handled. And second, LVA members can download a 2-for-1 coupon for breakfast from our online “Printable Rewards,” which makes this a ridiculously good deal.

Putting aside the fact that we hate the staff-served format, there’s not many ways to shoot this one down. If you do nothing but have some fresh fruit, a made-to-order omelet, and a Bloody Mary or three, you’ll absolutely crush it. But there’s a lot more to choose from, including a Mexican station with Spanish breakfast specialties, a selection of soups, sautéed mushrooms and spinach, cereal, oatmeal, grits, and a carving station with ham, pork belly, and kielbasa.

The Bloody Marys used to be lined up on a bar for you to serve yourself, but due to the bar prohibition, they’re delivered by your server. These will get your day off to a very Vegasy start.

This buffet was reviewed in the February 2006 LVA when the hotel was still named South Coast; some of the information contained in this review may no longer be accurate.

South Coast—Mirroring the status of the rest of the casino, the Garden Buffet seems not quite finished. Labels are off or missing and some of the stations seem to be lacking a few elements. But what is there is good. This one gets the designation of superbuffet, due to its multiple serving stations and a Mongolian grill. The carving station is a little funky, dishing up ribs and pork, but no roast beef. Check out the good beef barley soup and the cheesecake and bread pudding for dessert. The seafood section is strong, with small-medium peel & eat shrimp, crayfish, and something you don’t see often in any buffet: large breaded oysters. Notice also the bargain prices—breakfast $6.45, lunch $7.45, and dinner $12.95 (with specialty nights up to $16.95).

    Breakfast
Absolutely love their scrambled eggs with lox. Plenty of lox. Add some spinach and I'm a happy camper.

    Hesitatn
I was more than a little hesitant to dine a the Garden Buffet in the South Point after being disappointed with the weekend brunch the past 2 visits, but a $10 dining coupon combined with a free breakfast/lunch coupon alleviated some of my fears.

I started off with a free Bloody Mary and a plate of fresh fruit with yogurt. My second and last plate included a surprisingly good cooked to order spinach and cheese omelet, bacon and hash browns. Service as usual was good.

    My excuse
My excuse for dining at this buffet is it is convenient for having breakfast prior to catching a plane for home. We also used a coupon so one meal was free and the second was paid by slot points. The breakfast includes a bloody Mary which is nearly as good as can be found at the bars for $1 prior to noon. I started with a plate of mixed fruit and yogurt that was pretty good though some of it obviously came out of a jar. I then limited my self to one more plate that included my Las Vegas guilty pleasures, bacon and corned beef plus easy over eggs. Would I pay full retail? No, but for the price of a gratuity I might, though not guaranteed, find my way to the buffet line again.

    2/1 coupon
We were staying at a timeshare immediately across the street from the South Point a decided to have the breakfast buffet prior to catching a return flight home. The buffet has been revamped since our last visit with additional cooking stations along with a few new items introduced. The room is large and bright with above average service. I loaded plate #1 plate with fresh fruit and yogurt. Plate #2 involved easy over eggs, sliced to order ham, potatoes and corned beef hash. Plate #3 was limited to a sampling of bacon and sauteed mushrooms. Baked breakfast pastries, gellato and the entire dessert station were ignored. The food was of average quality, but served to fill (stuff) my belly at a very reasonable price given that we used the LVA printable 2 for 1 coupon.

    Nice to serve ourselves again.
This is the model for all buffets.

    Another prime rib option
For about the same price, the prime rib at Primarily Prime Rib upstairs is served by a waiter and is in a nicer room.
