LVA Review

This restaurant was reviewed in the February 2011 LVA; some of the information contained in the review may no longer be accurate. he first of the Grand Cafés to return (after they were converted to Coco’s restaurants for a while) is now open at Palace Station and it’s putting on a big push to re-establish itself. Its anchor specials are a $9.99 12-ounce prime rib dinner (4-11 pm) and a $6.95 half-pound Angus cheeseburger and fries (24 hours). The prime rib dinner comes with baked potato, vegetables, and a roll if you ask. You can add a salad (house, Caesar, or wedge) or a cup of soup for $1.99, so it’s more like an $11.99 prime rib special if you want it “complete.” We tried it and this is a strong value for the price. We didn’t eat the burger, but we saw one served and it’s a monster. An unpromoted shrimp cocktail for $2.99 is one of the biggest for the money we’ve ever seen, with more than two-dozen medium-sized shrimp in the serving. Sandwiches are about $7 and entrées range from $8 to $18, there’s a different special every day (meatloaf, pot roast, chicken) for $7.99, and cakes and pastries are baked in-house. Everything we saw coming out the kitchen looked good. The Grand Café is back and assumes its place as one of the top four or five coffee shops in town.
