LVA Review

This restaurant was reviewed in the May 2009 LVA, some of the information contained in this review may no longer be accurate. This place has really changed. Quiet and subdued in its first incarnation as BullShrimp, it’s now a vibrant room with an enthusiastic wait staff and food good enough to earn the AAA Four Diamond award this year. It’s priced a tiny notch below T-Bones, with the big steaks going for $36-$49, appetizers $13-$17, soups and salads $8-$12, and sides $10. We did an out-of-city comparison on this one. Our reviewer recently had a petite filet ($37) and oysters on the half-shell ($17) at the famous Mastro’s steakhouse in L.A., so he tried the same at Hank’s, where each was priced $1 less. Sorry Hank, Mastro’s was better (though not overwhelmingly so). And by the way, those $16 and $17 oysters were for only a half-dozen. What’s up with that?

    Martinis and more
    We had a comp so we started off in the lounge where 1/2 priced martinis are served during happy hour.  We had a total of 4 martins (Elvis Presley, blackberry, Bo-Pino and ginger)with each recommendable.  
    
    We then made our way to the elegant dining room where we were presented with menus and a bread basket with soft herb butter. We shared a California salad with each of us ordering the petite 8 ounce filets that wee nicely charred while remaining medium rare as requested. These were tender and flavorful, and among the best we have experienced. For sides we chose grilled asparagus that still had a nice snap to them plus a baked potato. Service throughout was excellent.
