LVA Review

This restaurant was re-reviewed in the August 2011 LVA; some of the information contained in the review may no longer be accurate. It’s $10-$11 per pound for several variations of poke—raw-fish salad seasoned with soy sauce, seaweed, and onions—from this little store located at 3524 Wynn Road. It’s open every day except Tuesdays from 10 am to 6 pm (5 on weekends). This restaurant was reviewed in the October 2008 LVA; some of the information contained in this review may no longer be accurate. It’s pretty much all poke all the time at this new storefront located just across the street from the east boundary of Chinatown Plaza. More than a dozen versions of the indigenous raw-fish salad that’s seasoned in soy sauce, seaweed, and onions (among other ingredients) go for $10-$11 per pound, including spicy ahi, ahi limu, Korean-style tako, lomi salmon, and even opihi, the Hawaiian delicacy made from limpets. This is bargain pricing, considering that poke goes for $18 per pound at Las Vegas’ Whole Foods Markets. The poke is sold in quarter-, half-, and one-pound quantities, so you can try two or three kinds in small containers for under $10 (and the staff is happy to give you samples to taste). There’s a different line-up every day and you can call to see what’s available. They also sell freshly cut sashimi trays for $7-$8 and other Hawaiian specialties (chips, chocolate macadamias, crack seeds, etc.). Hours are 10 am to 6 pm Monday through Saturday and 11 to 5 on Saturday. Everything is take-out. Hawaiian Style Poke completes a neat little dining trio on this block, with the Noodle House and Veggie Delight nearby. Parking’s a slight problem; look for a space on the curb across the street.
