This is the Las Vegas outpost of a highly successful chain in New York, Atlantic City, Florida, and Puerto Rico. It’s located on the third floor of the Forum Shops; the best way to get there is from the mall’s Strip entrance closest to the Mirage, then take the spiral escalators to the top (valet park for free at the Forum Shops entrance). This is high-end old-school Italian, with a glam dining room, waiters in tuxedoes even at lunch, and two lines on the bill for tips: one for the waiters and one for the captain (the first time we’ve seen that). There’s a prix-fixe “pre-theater” menu, available 5-6:30 pm Sun.-Fri. for $39, with a choice of appetizer, soup or salad, entrée, and dessert—the best way to sample this food. On the main menu, appetizers such as clams on the half-shell, calamari, and shrimp scampi start at $18.50, with carpaccio $27. But all meals start with complimentary hors d’oeuvres: a plate of sliced salami, a chunk of imported parmesan from a big quarter-wheel, focaccia with salsa, and spicy fried zucchini. Soups are $12 and salads $15; pastas are $29 and up; chicken starts at $36; veal starts at $36 for piccata and runs up to $58 with mushrooms; risotto is in the $30s-$40s; and meat and fish are in the $40s up to $69 for a prime aged New York strip. Sides and desserts are $15. The lunch and dinner menus are exactly the same, so if you want to avoid the evening crowds or have an elegant lunch, this is a good place to do so. We tried lunch and had the dining room almost to ourselves. The bill, including one drink and pasta, chicken, and veal entrées, came to $165 total with the two tips. That’s a big-time ticket for a lunch for three, but perfect for an important business meeting, midday celebration, or just a hassle-free run at one of the best Italian restaurants in Las Vegas.
