LVA Review

This restaurant was reviewed in the December 2011 LVA; some of the information contained in this review may no longer be accurate. The Las Vegas version of this famous Southern California and Arizona restaurant surprised us for look and feel. Rather than the dark and intimate setting of the Beverly Hills restaurant, this one is wide open and bright. But the menu is familiar, with good steaks, seafood, and sides at also-familiar big price points (the famous lobster mashed potatoes go for $38). Since this is an “Ocean Club” (some are simply designated “Steakhouses”), there’s more emphasis on the seafood, but it’s tough to go to a Mastro’s and not have a steak. Least expensive is the 8-ounce filet for $40, which was served rare as ordered on a sizzling (spitting!) plate. The bill, with a couple cocktails, was $140 for two. And while we may not have loved the ambience, there’s a great piano player who reels off standards from the likes of Elton John, Elvis Costello, and the Cars. That helps.
