The best thing about the Paradise Garden Buffet is, in fact, the "paradise garden" -- the big picture windows overlooking the Flamingo's lush wildlife habitat and lush; the natural light is a nice departure from the usual windowless confines of other Vegas buffets.

As for the food, it's a toss-up as to which buffet is preferable, Harrah's or the Flamingo. After eating at both a number of times over the years, Harrah's wins the horse race, but only by a nose. This one's pretty basic. You can fill up on food, but it all tastes approximately the same and you won't remember what you ate an hour later. At least that's the way it's been for us.

The Flamingo's former Friday's-only "Seafood Spectacular" is now served every night for $13.99 in the Paradise Garden Buffet. Does anyone remember the old "Buffet of Champions" at the Hilton, circa 1992? It was famous for one thing: all-you-could-eat cold king crab legs (snow crab was substituted in later years). The Hilton was the only place in town to serve the big guys cold, and no other buffet has ever offered them in quite the same way since. Until now. The Flamingo's kings are stacked in enormous piles in several sections of the buffet. Remember, they're cold, so they don't go well with butter; use them to craft the ultimate crab cocktail. There are also big piles of cold steamed clams and steamed mussels, which are surprisingly good. The rest of the buffet is adequate-good salmon, fried chicken, and lots of cooked veggies-except for the dessert assortment, which is terrible. The best play is to use your 2-for-1 coupon from the Pocketbook of Values, good seven days a week. Two of us chowed some heavy leg for a total, after tax, of $15.01.
