This restaurant was reviewed in the August 2012 LVA; some of the information contained in the review may no longer be accurate. Located on the south Strip just north of the MGM, Smith & Wollensky is one of the city’s premier steakhouses. You don’t find a lot of bargains there, but it’s running an excellent one now called “Summer Social Hour.” On weekdays from 2 to 7 pm, everything on the bar menu is buy-one-get-another. What makes this different is that the choices aren’t appetizers; they’re regular lunches. Big burgers, barbecued shrimp, crab cakes, and more average about $8 per on this offer. Splitting the house specialty pea soup ($8) is a good starter. Draft Fosters are $4. The setting is different from a casino steakhouse, and this is a compelling alternative for an afternoon or early evening meal. There’s a big parking lot in the back that eliminates the usual inconvenience of going to a Strip restaurant if you’re driving.
