The Golden Nugget buffet is an old workhouse that's been doing the exact same thing for decades. It's been around so long that its reputation is, perhaps, a little bigger than its reality; it doesn't compete with the better Strip buffets, but it doesn't try to. It just needs to stay a step ahead of the two other downtown buffets, and it does just that -- though Main Street Station's prices are almost 50% less.
With an LVA 2-for-1 coupon here, however, you're in the range for a buffet for two, though the Member Rewards Book has coupons for both the MSS and Fremont buffets as well. If you're staying downtown or planning to be there for any length of time and you don't have an LVA membership, sorry, but you've failed an intelligence test.
It's not fancy or large, but one way this buffet sets itself apart is with its salads: cucumber, caprese, artichoke, shrimp-pasta, and stacks of vegetables (and fruit for breakfast). Everything else is, as mentioned, workable.
One note: Guys must wear shirts with sleeves (the only little dress code we've ever seen at a Las Vegas buffet; apparently, some diners try to enter in beachwear).

We tried the GN buffet as part of the Frankie Moreno show package and it was the icing on this great deal. Start with an excellent salad selection and a decent charcuterie board, plus medium peeland-eat shrimp. The carving station has turkey, ham, kielbasa, pork loin, and sliced steak. There’s also a pasta station and the only omelet station we’ve ever seen at dinner. Top it off with an impressive dessert assortment that includes crème brûlée, delicate cream puffs, and the famous Golden Nugget bread pudding that’s as good as it’s always been. Regular dinner is $21.99 and specialty nights run $23.99 to $27.99 (for seafood night on Friday). If you combine with the show, Thursday is Italian night and Saturday is BBQ.
