Vegas Golden Knights

William Foley took a big risk when he and partners paid $500 million for a Las Vegas expansion hockey team. Would they be competitive? Would the locals support them? Would visitors sacrifice gambling time for hockey in the desert?

The answer to all these questions was a resounding, “Yes!”

Vegas Golden Knights delves deeply into the unlikely but momentous journey that took the Knights to the top in their inaugural season, even as they carried the weight of a grieving city along the way.

This book details:

  • how Las Vegas got its first major-league team
  • how the expansion draft resembled a poker game
  • profiles of two dozen players
  • why the Golden Knights and the mass shooting will forever be linked
  • descriptions of all 102 games
  • a look at the over-the-top merchandise and ticket sales and fan mania
  • how the Las Vegas sports books fared during the season and playoffs
  • expert commentary from a 60-year hockey fan

Vegas Golden Knights puts you right in the middle of a sports tale so miraculous that it transcends winning and losing—it’s the story of the mismatched misfits who made a run for the ages while a city, and the world, watched in amazement.

I’m not a hockey fan. Never saw a game. But I loved reading this book as it made feel like I was there. It’s like listening to a sports game on radio where you can follow along with the plays. It was exciting, waiting for the next game to know what happened. The images are only highlights, but for those who got to see the games or who follow hockey, you’ll enjoy them probably even more. —LC
