I’ve been having severe medical problems over the last 9 months. After six trips to the ER/Triage, three surgeries and one under emergency conditions, and two months of catheters, I’ve lost 38 pounds. At several points in the process, my crew was very very concerned. So was I.
But I’m a tough old bird (it takes a lot to kill me), and though I’m not exactly bouncing back, I am up and grumbling.
I haven’t been publishing my blog every couple of weeks, which is another indication of how severe it’s all been. Writing this blog is an honor and a joy for this unrepentant old Vegas scuffler.
And now … sigh … my issues are exacerbated by flying, so I won’t be back in Vegas for at least another three months. I’ve got plenty to write about, but I’ll be pining for video poker, the dance floor at the Pinky Ring, comped meals, and scoping out the latest “shews,” as Ed Sullivan used to say.
I can’t get to Vegas unless I drive. And I live in North Carolina. Before you ask, no, Harrah’s Cherokee just doesn’t do it for me.
In short, life has slowed me down in a way I’ve not seen in nearly seven decades.
Please bear with me. I apologize that I may be slow in responding to comments on my blog. Our system doesn’t alert me when a comment posts, so unless I sign in I don’t see them, some time for weeks. You can also reach me at bobbyvegas.com
Luckily, I still have plenty to write about. I continue to see deals getting better (eternal optimist that I am). I get offers from over a dozen casinos, including juicy mailers from the Rainbow. Treasure Island, Fontainebleau, and Plaza are sending creative deals, such as no resort fee, free parking, and in the case of the Plaza, all-inclusive packages starting at $125 night that come with two meals a day (Hash House a Go Go included) , unlimited drinks, and access to all the resort-fee amenities including free parking, pool, exercise access, and more. The Bingo deal is even better.
Is this a sign of prices stabilizing and deals getting better? Are you seeing good deals? If so, tell us about them, please.
Finally, last year I cut a deal with Anthony to create a downloadable-app phone version of Jean Scott’s fantastic Video Poker Scouting Guide, which I’ve cheered on in my blogs as it’s led me to literally thousands of dollars in video poker wins. We expect it to be up and running in May. Stay tuned.
And please, keep me in your thoughts and prayers.

Really enjoy your blog posts and the joy you write them with, Bobby V. I hope you get back to feeling better and get back to Vegas soon.
Love the posts! Get feeling better soon! ~Cheers
¡We wish you a full speedy recovery Bobby!
Get Well Pal!!
Y’know…I have always wanted to drive from Pittsburgh to Las Vegas. A stop in NC for a good passenger isn’t the worst idea that I have ever had.
Get well soon Bobby. Hang tough!
I’m not much of a religious person now but saying a prayer for ANYONE who has a catheter (had one for a year and a half in my mid 20s!)..
Love “I am up and grumbling.” Hey, that’s a start.
A friend flies to Vegas in July for a Bingo tournament, or something Bingo, at South Point.
We know what ascending in an airplane does to any ailing body part. At least it gets better upon descending, but NC to Vegas is a lot of flying time.
Thoughts and prayers for feeling better soon!
Hope you continue to heal. As we get older, it just seems it’s one thing after another. My husband recently had spine surgery after 2-1/2 years of suffering. He is now pain free. It’s a miracle! Keep your positive attitude and zest for life. It will help you recover. Bruno Mars needs you back at the Pinky Ring ASAP :-).
Firstly… speedy recovery. Secondly… you have been missed. Lastly… please continue to ferret out the promos, deals, offers and post them as often as you possibly can. As an old fellow Vegas scuffler, I appreciate the info you share in your blogs, much of which I was not aware of and most certainly take advantage of. Thank you.
Thank you Edso
Thank you everyone for the kind words and that you enjoy my blogs.
Bobby
Glad you’re making progress, and I hope you’ll be well enough to fly soon.
Like how you write and the stories you tell. Keep just moving along!!
Enjoy your blogs. Get better soon and remember to take it one day at a time.
I have been really touched by the outpouring of concern re my health and postive comments towards my blog.
Folks….
Thank you !
I wasn’t specific about the issues I have but it’s a combination of a very enlarged prostate,
(one surgery) and complications from kidney stones,( 2 surgeries).
On 2 trips to Vegas I ended up in the hospital.
On the next trip I got very, very sick from a related infection.
I left a message for my doc asking if there is a correlation between air travel and what happened.
Is it just me making the connection or..?
All this really sapped my energy and creative juices.
I hope to be back in the writing saddle soon and back in Vegas sooner!
Thank you .
All your comments and well wishes mean the world to me. Again ..thank you !
Bobby
Advise from an Old Nurse……Take care of your self. Vegas will still be there when ready. As well as all of us bargain hunters.
Hi again Bobby. To clarify my response above regarding air travel: The upper levels of atmosphere achieved by airplanes likely did not CAUSE those medical issues of yours. What happens is, be it a bad cold, an absessed tooth, eye trouble, surgical incision, etc., may very well rear its ugly head, e.g. pain, worsening of cough/cold during flight until landing.
Example: My husband foolishly transferred something, I think it was some kind of oil, into one of those little bottles that had contained eye drops. Yep, he reached for it instead of the real eye drops. Was seen and treated. This was a few days before a Vegas trip, and his eye was feeling much better. During the flight, though, he was asking me for pain meds. He was pretty miserable with eye irritation the three hours of the flight. Upon arrival in Vegas, upon the “We are beginning our descent into Las Vegas” his eye started easing up, and was pretty much pain free once we landed. No idea why this happens, but enough folks have experienced it.
It will make for a miserable flight, not worth the trouble.
Again, all the best to you for recovery and return of your get-up-and go!
Get well soon Bobby! I love all of your work and hope you can get back to it asap!
I know so well, from my own experience, how you miss Vegas. Having friends and fans that send words of encouragement is a real blessing!!
