In this installment, I write about a couple of miscellaneous non-Strip activities that are fun, but maybe not big enough to warrant their own blog.
The Nevada State Railway Museum in Boulder City is a branch of the Nevada State Museum. It’s about a half-hour drive from the Strip, about 15 minutes short of Hoover Dam if you want to make a fuller day of it. It’s currently open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but as always during these uncertain times, call ahead (702-486-5933) before you head out.
It’s an outdoor museum with many historical train cars and locomotives on display. Some of them are still operational and you can ride them around the tracks that are still in place. During holiday times, they have a Santa Express as well. During non-COVID times, you can tour the insides of the display cars. Again, check their website and/or call to see what’s still running and when.
If you’re a fan of the rock band KISS, check out KISS Mini Golf at the Rio. It’s an indoor 18-hole course, played mostly in the dark with black lights. The cost is $12 and the golf is decent enough, but the star attraction is really all the KISS memorabilia on display. It’s a fun activity for an hour or so and since you’re in Vegas, if you’re with a group of people, make some bets amongst yourselves.
During COVID, reservations are recommended (which you can do on their website) to maintain social distancing, but walk-in spots may be available. Again, call ahead (702-558-6256)
