Assuming the price is the same for each, which has the better ("Deluxe King") rooms, Main Street Station or California?

It's been awhile so I can't say about the rooms, however I always liked Calirfornia better. The rail at the MSS made it difficult for me to enjoy playing VP at the bar, it also seems to be a bit of a walk to get to anything. Laperts best Ice cream at California.
I've stayed at both. I thought the MSS rooms were really nice, and the beds were comfortable. There was nothing wrong with the Cal rooms; they were just a little more basic. Insofar as access to everything, the elevated passageway connecting the two properties makes it easy from either side.
There is one feature I like about the Cal if you can get it, which is if you stay on the 12th? 14th? floor, you'll be on the same floor as the pool! One-minute walk from your room to the splash. Very convenient.
I second the motion for Lappert's ice cream.

Kevin, do you know how many years it's since they cancelled the "score with four" scratch card promo? I tried to figure out it if's still ongoing but I believe it was cancelled. They had 2 machines with NSUD inside MSS on the wall left. The cold air was blowing down but this didn't keep me from playing there because of the overall conditions. I take it the machines are out, and the promotion was cancelled somewhen during covid? And the buffet is also closed ?

The buffet is still open. I don't know about the machines or promos.

The last time I played there was several years ago; they still had the quad bonus tickets, but they were always $1 or $2 (and I got twelve of them). Then I made the mistake of eating at the buffet--gaah!!
I don't know if that promo is still in effect. It isn't worth much anyway.
Thanks for the info guys. Probably not spending a whole lot of time at either casino and the location of each hotel is suitable for me.
Mostly just trying to determine who has the more comfortable rooms. Sounds like that is likely Main Street Station.
Our room at the Cal was pretty good last time, except for the siriens and trains. I don;t see any reason to go to Main street station. Last time we had free rooms there we checked in and said no way. But we did have other options

MSS, from the day they opened, appeared to have devoted a bit more effort to making the hotel nice than other properties in that range. The lobby is beautiful (Victorian motifs) and the room decorations are very nice. Re comfort, that was the second best casino hotel room I've ever stayed in (Reno Peppermill was the first). There are some rooms that are noisier than others (the ones that face north get some noise from the railroad yard), but only a few are affected by the Fremont Street Keep Everybody Awake Experience.
I got my rooms back then for a song and a dance, but that was before Boyd casinos flipped everyone the Boyd.
I was at MSS a couple of weeks ago. Some machines still do the "Score With Four", but it is now in an electronic format. If you hit a quad on an eligible machine, it pops up on the display. The machines at the bar do this. Unfortunately the paytables have been diminished. I sat there to get one of their decent craft beers and played a few hands and hit.
As for the rooms, I'd stay at the Cal or Fremont. The last room I was in was filthy and I was disgusted. I'll not be returning there.
