Match play Advice

Thanks but I'm afraid I won't enjoy it since it's a pure luck game.

Odd reason to shun craps.

It's true that craps doesn't require a basic strategy like blackjack does.

But once a blackjack player gets basic strategy down, it's just as much a "pure luck" game as craps is. Yes, card counters are an exception here, but card counting's miserable and totally unenjoyable.

My craps play is no more susceptible to luck than my blackjack game is.

Enjoy some craps, it's fun!

I would definitely say that craps is more fun than blackjack. Both games have a skill component. In craps, it's simply avoiding most of the bets offered and sticking to just a few. In blackjack, it's learning how to play the hands. In the short run, certainly, luck is predominant in both games.

The difference, though, is that a craps Pass Line bet can take several minutes to resolve (or be decided with the first roll). Thus, you get more entertainment for your matchplay chips.

I like to bet the $25 MP Coupons on the Roulette Wheel, because it's easy to play.

(On BJ,  people already on the table don't like other players jumping on/off.)

I stayed at the DT Grand and they give a $50 MP Coupon ... same as LVA coupon.

I looked at the recent history and saw a couple of "Reds"  and  "Evens".

So I put one bet on "Black" and the other bet on "Odd" ... Silver Ball hit 29 Black !!

BINGO ... up $200 !!     (Room is paid for ... LOL)

( If I win / lose one bet ... up    $50 ).

( If I lose both bets ...  down  $100 ).

The way I see it - you're already up with the matchplay.    As long as you arent making a sucker bet you're good.

With just that handful of plays the difference between playing crappy roulette and perfect blackjack is going to amount to a cup of coffee.

If Im going to play for awhile I use mine at the craps table.   If Im just doing a one and done hit-n-run then Im going straight to the roulette table.   Thats the easiest table to jump in and out of.

Well....I could dispute that in the case of the OP having nine $25 matchplays...the difference in EV would be about $1 per, so maybe breakfast at McDonald's.

I just don't like how Vegas added a second zero to the European wheel, because they weren't satisfied with a 2.6% edge. That's pure greed, and I don't want to endorse it by playing it.

The fun starts when your bankroll is so high that it's not relevant whether you win a match play or lose it. It's because you know the odds are GUARANTEED IN YOUR FAVOR.  I usually pick one of my vacation days for a match play mission. I put 500 into my pocket and start cruising along. Most important games are of course in Downtown. If the 50 dollar match play loses and so do the other 25s at the Plaza and the Golden Gate and the D, then it's probably a bad year. IT happened, and it will happen again, but there will be also the good years when most of these bets come in. I don't even bother playing craps or b-j. I usually pick the first available game. I avoid roulette because I think it's harder to win because of the house edge. However, one round usually is mostly luck-determed, not odds related. That's how I see it. Over the course of time, in years, you are way ahead betting these match play coupons. No matter what kind of game you pick.

Plaza downtown has a cheap 0 roulette table.

Craps is too complex for me. Card games are so to me. Baccarat is an enigma. I do well and not well on roulette. In AC NJ in March I hit all my goals: $700, $825, $1050, $1400, $1750. Great trip!

when you play a match-play only, it doesn't take much skill at all. especially not on a craps table. just place the money on the pass line bet and see what happens.

You should give craps another look sometime. It's really not as complex as it first looks. Especially if you stick to the basic bets which are the mathematically best ones anyway.

I did great last year using the LVA and "Hi Matthew" match plays on the pass line.  There's no decision to make, and it takes longer than a hand of BJ. I recommend avoiding BJ unless you are already betting $25 or more on that game.
