I mean no disrepect, Tony, but I remember that as a Dionne Warwick hit called Message To Michael, in which "her" was replaced with "him," and "she" with "he."

I'm aware that when it was sung by a male it was called Message To Martha, and I'm guessing by your post that a Brit sang it before Dionne Warwick did. Is that right? Who was it?

If I be wrong, I'm sure you'll say so. If I correctly guessed the song, I'll try this one-liner:

Like a boomerang I need a repeat

Message to Michael works!

The song, originally written as "Message to Martha" is a Bacharach/David composition.
It was recorded several times before Adam Faith had a hit with it in 1964.
It was also recorded as "Kentucky Bluebird"

I think that the Dionne Warwick release was the first to chart in the Top Ten.
I really liked her version.

I know that disco comment had to be a huge hint, Tony, but I'm still coming up empty.

Might we have a second hint about either the song or the artist(s)?

Another line -
She looks like a sugar in a plum, plum, plum.

Jamaican band based out of Germany - this song chated at #30 in the USA and is still played in diso's today.

Not a "Name This Song" post, but I think that it will interest all the participants.
I just read" Smokey: Inside My Life" The lifeestory of Smokey Robinson - he wrote over 1000 songs - for most of the Motown stars - I highly recommend this book.
