Another great lyricist -

OK - I thought that the mention of another great lyricist was a big clue -
So t I ain't batting 100 - I thought that was a BIG clue.
But here is some more - A LOT more

I`m going back out `fore the rain starts a falling,
I`ll walk to the depth of the deepest black forest,
where the people are many and their hands are all empty,
where the pellets of poison are flooding their waters,
where the home in the valley meets the damp dirty prison,
where the executioner`s face is always well hidden,
where hunger is ugly, where souls are forgotten,
where black is the colour, where none is the number,
and I`ll tell it and think it and speak it and breathe it,
and reflect it from the mountain, so all souls can see it,
then I`ll stand on the ocean until I start sinkin`,
but I know my song well before I start singin`.

OK - if that doesn't do it . . .

And it's a hard and it's a hard and it's a hard and it's a hard----------------
"A Hard Rain is Gonna Fall"
I would have easily gotten this with the first line, but just wasn't on line.
The greatest lyricist of them all----Bob Dylan
Actually, to be technically correct, now that I think about it----"A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall" is probably the correct title.

NEW----"I've been uptight and made a mess----but I'll clean it up myself, I guess-----
Oh---the sweet smell of success"........

That's Handle With Care, by The Traveling Wilburys. I liked that one.

OK, we're traveling from the late 80s back to 1967 here. This Ohio garage band (whose name I wouldn't expect anyone to remember) had a #2 hit with this:

And when you're in a mess and you feel like cryin'
Just remember this little song of mine
And as you go through life tryin' to reach your goal
Just remember what I said about _ ______ ___ _' ____

This was their only top 40 hit, thereby making the band a one-hit wonder.

great song choices guy and dolls...
nice page!!

spent 25 rock&roll years in Ohio and this is nothing but aggravation because I feel like I SHOULD know it--

Can't think of any good hints, so maybe it's time to give up on that one. It was A Little Bit O' Soul, by the Music Explosion.

Let's try this one. It was #1 for six straight weeks in 1960:

But don't forget who's taking you home
And in whose arms you're gonna be

Hi All,

I just missed answering “A Little Bit of Soul”. For some reason I thought Sam the Sham did that. Doesn’t it kind of sound like them?

But the next one is “Save the last dance for me”. I like the Drifters on that one, though others have done it.

Lets try:

This is my last time, not asking any more
If you don't do right, I'm gonna march outa that door
Okay, what can I tell ya? This is what Wikipedia has:

In 1962 the original version of this song went to the number one spot on the R&B charts, and to the top 10 on the Hot 100. Freddy Fender retained the bluesy, soulful elements when he recorded a country version of the song in 1975. In April 1976, the song became his fourth No. 1 song on the Billboard magazine Hot Country Singles chart.

The song was also recorded by Aretha Franklin and released on her "Runnin' Out of Fools" album in 1964.

I’ll add some more lines too:

This is my last time, not asking any more
If you don't do right, I'm gonna march outa that door

And if you don't believe me, just try it daddy
