Name the song the line is from Part II

More lines:

I can't believe that this is the girl next door
Her funny little face isn't funny no more
Sixteen, and oh what a dream
Ain't it strange how she changed
Into such a lovely angel

The song was a #5 hit in 1962 for this Brooklyn-born singer-songwriter-musician (no, not Neil Diamond -- the other one ).

Good morning all. I'm thinking that must be Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen by Neil Sedaka.

How about this:

Out through the back yard we'd go walkin'
Then he'd look into my eyes
Slowpoke, I also thought of "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen," but after seeing Jim's additional lines, I realized that's not it. The correct song is "I'm Living Right Next Door to an Angel." Neil Sedaka is correct, though. I hear that song a lot as it's on the playlist at work.

I don't have a new one in mind, so we'll continue with yours --

"Out through the back yard we'd go walkin'
Then he'd look into my eyes"

The Neil Sedaka song was indeed Next Door To An Angel.

Pretty sure Slowpoke's lyrics are from Son Of A Preacher Man. I remember versions by Dusty Springfield and Aretha.

More early 60s:

I can see hearts carved on a tree

More lines:

I can see hearts carved on a tree
Letters intertwined, for all time
Yours and mine, that was fine

The singer has a Vegas connection.

Wayne Newton - also Brenda Lee

I can't believe that she would leave me on my own
It's just not right that every night i'm all alone..

That right there is Don't Bother Me, by the Beeeeeeeeetles.

This right here was a #4 hit in 1965:

Why can'tcha see the other side of me?

More lines:

I don't know how to say that I love you
'Cause you'd just smile and say, "Tell a joke or two"
Yes, I'm a clown but I don't wanna be
Why can'tcha see the other side of me?

This singer's father was a comedian and actor, but probably is better known these days as "that telethon guy."

Everybody Loves a Clown - Gary Lewis

************NEW**************

better run into your house before she stops and lays a little on you

This was a track off a hit album.
It became a "must do" live tour song for the band.

Another line -

If she ever gives you any, you better see your doctor real quick
