Name the song the line is from Part II

That's Who Are You, by those guys from Whoville.

Here's one:

For each man in his time is Cain
Until he walks along the beach
And sees his future in the water
A long lost heart within his reach

Edit: Decided to switch to lyrics from a different part of the song.

Hi All,

That’s a very nice one, Jim. It’s “The One” by Elton John.

Here’s one from 1979:

If there's a short cut I'd have found it
But there is no easy way around it

Edited to make space

That's Love Is The Answer, by England Dan and John Ford Coley. Nice.

This one's from 1982:

There's nobody in the future
So baby, let me hand you my love
There's no step for you to dance to
So slip your hand inside of my glove

More lines and a few hints:

Can you understand me
Baby, don't you hand me a line
Although it doesn't matter
You and me got plenty of time

There's nobody in the future
So baby, let me hand you my love
There's no step for you to dance to
So slip your hand inside of my glove

Very successful group first formed in London in 1967. Personnel changes eventually led to the mixed line-up (male/female, American/British) that did their best work, roughly from 1975 to 1990.

This song reached #4 on the US charts in 1982. Initially, it failed to chart in the UK, and a 1989 re-issue didn't do much better (#94).

The group member who wrote this song, and sang lead vocal, was named Christine (somtimes called Christie).

I'll give it up in a little while if this doesn't help.

OK, looks like that one didn't work. It was Hold Me, by Fleetwood Mac.

Let's try this.

All five singles released from this artist's very successful 1986 album reached the US top-5 and the UK top-5. This particular one reached #1 US and #2 UK:

Will it grow cold, the secret that I hide? Will I grow old?
How will they hear? When will they learn? How will they know?

Oops - Jim is quick on the draw today!

That one is “Live to Tell” by Madonna.

Here’s some 1971 Soul:

You the kind of gentleman that want everything your way
Take the sheet off your face, boy, it's a brand new day

Edited to clean up loose ends
Okay now. The clue must not be working, because this was hit, for sure. I even hear it frequently on my local oldies station. So let’s try some hints.
The group was actually a family who took the “s” off their surname or it would be just like a certain national Office Supply store. They also had two other major hits in the 1970s.
The song has a two-word title, similar to one done by Madonna in 1989. In fact, Wikipedia claims that she borrowed the hook from this song for hers.

A few more lines:

If you don’t give a heck about the man with a bible in his hand
Just get out the way and let the gentleman do his thing
It must be a dud. The song is called “Respect Yourself” by the Staple Singers. I’m gonna let somebody else choose the next one.
I waited a bit...so here it is...

Hey, babe, I wanna tell ya that I love you so
I wanna hold you in my arms, yeah
