Don’t feel bad, Jim. You were probably listening to Cyndi Lauper, Hall and Oates B-52s and Banana-Rama at the time. I didn’t seek out much Country back then either. But, it found me and some stuck.
I was sure this would be guessed right a way by someone who may be out for now. Sorry about that. I’ll give a hint at least. Maybe someone else knows it too. There aren’t very many lines to this one. So I’ll just describe the theme. The narrator is a man who can’t face himself since his heart was broken.
I’m hoping Sue will recognized this one. It has been done by several Country artists. I like it best by Gene Watson, but it’s a matter of taste, I guess.

Check out this country singer - he has the voice, but does he have the look?
Well, it just goes to show you, don’t judge a book by its cover. He seems to be doing an impression of Johnny Cash. Maybe his clothes reflect some other covers that he does.
I’m trying one more hint for my last song.
I’ll give the chorus with the name blanked out: _ _____ __ ______ _______ I can’t stand to see me without you by my side _ _____ __ ______ _______ ‘Cause I’ve got a heartache to hide
