Name the song the line is from Part II

Good Morning All,

Hey Jim, which group did it first? I’m only familiar with Herman’s Hermit's version of “Can’t you hear my heartbeat?”.

Mid-70s here:

But you better not pick it
Only grows when it's on the vine
Handful of thorns
and you'll know you've missed it
Lose your love
when you say the word mine

That's Love Is A Rose, by Neil Young. I think Linda Ronstadt also recorded a countrified version.

This is from 1981:

What will become of the restless kind
Where do they go when they''ve done their time
Wearin' their hearts out on the line
For all to see

(Cyndee, while I was double-checking the lyics for Can't You Hear My Heartbeat by Herman's Hermits, I came across the little known fact that the song was first recorded by Goldie and the Gingerbreads. What? Did I hear you say that you've never heard of them? Neither have I.)

That’s a good dance tune, Jim. I think it’s called “Night Owl” by The Little River Band.

It’s hard to believe this only got as high as #60 on the Billboard charts in1973.

Sorry, Charlie for the imposition
I think I've got it (got it)
I got the strength to carry on, yeah
I need a drink and a quick decision
now it's up to me,
ooh, what will be

That's She's Gone, by Hall & Oates. I liked it, and I too would have guessed that it had placed higher on the charts.

This one made it to #5 in 1974:

It's important to me
That you know you are free
'Cause I never want to make you change for me

Some additional lines:

Seeing you
Or seeing anything as much as I do you
I take for granted that you're always there
I take for granted that you just don't care
Sometimes I can't help seeing all the way through

It's important to me
That you know you are free
'Cause I never want to make you change for me

I hear that one a couple times a week on the radio. It’s “Hello, it’s me” by Todd Rundgren (sp?).

Try this:

There's a new band in town
But you can't get the sound
from a story in a magazine...
Aimed at your average teen

That's Mr. William Martin Joel, singing It's Still Rock And Roll To Me.

An easy fun one from the early 60s:

At Huntington and Malibu
They're shootin' the pier
At Rincon they're walkin' the nose

I think that is It's Still Rock and Roll to Me by Billy Joel. I'm fairly certain about Billy Joel but I may be wrong on the song. If I am correct then here is a new one:

Yeah I'm lookin for the king of forty second street
He drivin' a drop top cadillac
And last week he took all my money
And it may sound funny
But I come to get my money back

And everybody say
Jack, don't you know
Good Morning All,

Jim’s latest is “Surfin’ Safari” by The Beach Boys.
Sorry, Alex. You were a bit late on yours. You can save for later, if you like.

This was a number one hit:

I'll say it once again
And somehow try to smile
I know the feeling
we're trying to forget
If only for awhile

That be Babe, by Styx. Really liked that one.

Let's try some 1983:

Who is to blame in one country?
Never can get to the one
Dealin' in multiplication
And they still can't feed everyone
