Name the song the line is from Part II

I feel honored, I made Jim have a mental block about the song I posted. LOL

Oh, Darlin’
I can't stand it,
When you look at me
that way

Methinks that be I Feel The Earth Move by Carole King.

Crossover hits happen all the time, but it's somewhat unusual for the song the make it all the way to the #1 spot on both the Pop and Country charts. This one did it in 1968:

And Mr. Baker, can you tell us
Why your secretary had to leave this town?

(lol, vegas777. Truth be told, mental blocks are to Jim as Old Faithful is to Yellowstone. You know, things that happen with great regularity. )

That’s “Harper Valley PTA” by (I think) Jeanie C. Riley.

I like this:

I've been around for you
I've been up and down for you
But I just can't get any relief
I've swallowed my pride for you
I've lived and lied for you
But you still make me feel like a thief

Good one! They were one of my favorite groups when they were in their prime, Cyn.

Time For Me To Fly, by REO Speedwagon.

Some (big hint) 1966 Motown:

So if you're lookin' for a lover, oh yeah
Don't judge a book by its cover, oh yeah

That’s “Beauty’s only skin deep” by The Temptations

More Motown (this time 1965):

Funny
how precious memories linger on
So long,
long after you're gone
Oh, precious memories
that all makes me cry
But I keep holding on,
oh why should I?
Good Morning All,

Now I realize the song was not the hit I thought it was. It only reached #70 on the Hot 100 and #22 on the R&B charts. So, it might not go over well here. Sorry about that. I’ll give a few hints and see if someone knows it. If not I’ll give it up this afternoon.

This song was written by Holland-Dozier-Holland and recorded by two different groups. One was headed by Martha and the other by Diana.
The theme is being wrong to hope that her sweetheart will come back and acting in ways she doesn’t think are wise.

More lines:
____, ____, ____ _____ __ __ _______ ______
Sit alone by the phone, a phone that never rings
Hoping to hear you say you love me still
Knowing you never will.

Obviously, from your hint, Cyn, this song was recorded by both Martha and the Vandellas, and The Supremes.

I grew up in that city. I was immersed in the sound. I should know this song.

I be mad at myself.

It’s okay, Jim.

I just chose the wrong song. It is “Love makes me do foolish things”

This reached #9 in 1976:

If things are the same
then explain why your kiss is so cold
and that mist in your eyes
feels like rain on the fire
in my soul

Pretty sure that's Smoke From A Distant Fire, by the Sanford Townsend band. Really good song.

I mentioned in an earlier post that it's unusual for a crossover song to make it all the way to the #1 spot on both the Pop and Country charts. Harper Valley PTA did it in 1968. It didn't happen again until 1981. Here we go:

It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it

That's "9 to 5," by Dolly Parton.

"You had your way,
Now you must pay"
