Name the song the line is from Part II

OK, a second line of lyrics, and a hint or two:

When there's no gettin' over that rainbow
When my smallest of dreams won't come true

It's from 1974. This duo sang easy listening songs. This one reached #11 on the Pop chart, and #1 on the Adult Contemporary (easy listening) chart.

I'm trying to "sing" that one in my head, and I'm coming up with "I can't last a day without you." Or something like that. LOL

I'd say that's plenty close enough, Susan.

It's I Won't Last A Day Without You, by The Carpenters.

Watcha got?

"On a warm summer's evening,
on a train bound for nowhere"

Hi all,

I believe that’s the opening line from “The Gambler” by Kenny Rogers.

Here’s some 1969:

Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullaby

Edit: Minding my grammar

I believe that's Golden Slumbers, from the Beatles Abbey Road album.

Another crossover (Country/Pop) hit:

Well, I grew up quick and I grew up mean
My fists got hard and my wits got keen

..Noahcat guessing this is not "A boy named Sue" or I didn't promise you a rosegarden...
Noahcat, I believe that IS "A Boy Named Sue." LOL

Your turn ...

It was indeed A Boy Named Sue, by Johnny Cash.

Noahcat won't be back until Monday morning so, to keep the thread going, let's see if anyone remembers this 1964 hit from a group that was very popular at the time:

I'll go on living and keep on forgiving
Because you were my first love
