About Getting IDs - It isn't easy like conservatives claim.

I was finally approved for my real id today but I still have to wait for seven to ten business days for them to mail it. It was my second attempt.

On my first attempt about a month ago, I drove 30 miles one way to the closest license branch that was open. I was denied despite having my birth certificate,  social security card a utility bill with my physical address and several bills with my name on them that come to my PO Box.  The state of Indiana sends my motor vehicle bills to my PO Box and has for years.

Almost all of my utility bills are paperless now. I could print out a copy of my phone bill but it only has my PO Box on it. The only other bill that has my physical address on it is my natural gas bill but it is also paperless.  So I had to drive to the natural gas office on a day and time they keep window hours. They are only open to receive customers two days a week. So I go there and am told they are not allowed to print documents from that office and they will order a document for me that should arrive at my address in 5 to 7 business days.  I finally got that a week and a half ago. But I still had to wait until my license branch had office hours that lined up with days I didn't work.  They are only open two days a week.

Now all in all it looks like it is going to take me 40 days to get my ID.  Can you imagine if I was a renter and didn't have utilities in my name? Can you see how onerous this is for someone who rents, still lives with their parents or has roommates so there aren't any bills in their name with their physical address on it.

In addition, if I didn't already have a physical copy of my birth certificate, I would have had to driven 50 miles one way on a day off and wait 2-4 hours for them to pull the record and print it out.

The next time someone says getting an ID is no big deal call them on their BS.

The Georgia law is designed to keep old white Republican men in power and nothing more. Hell, they even granted themselves veto power over any election held in the state. Now without any evidence of fraud or other malfeasance they can simply throw out the votes of an area that has results they don't like.

Elections in Georgia are as fair as they are in any third-world country now.  The results are predetermined regardless of the actual result.

Make no mistake about it.  If you vote for any Republican Candaite you are voting to live in an authoritarian dictatorship rather than a representative republic.

The only fun thing about all of this is getting to watch how much money Georgia loses because of this. They are down 100 million just from the MLB pullout. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft pulls the plug on their planned development. Since the Republican legislature has threatened to raise Delta's taxes twice now for simply not agreeing 100% with their political positions, I wouldn't be surprised if Delta is looking for a new hub.

I ran into similar difficulties when trying to get a passport renewal. I found that I didn't have what was considered "proof" of residence, since I was renting from a friend and I had no utility bills of my own. What bills I did have that were in my name were paperless and usually didn't have an address on them--such as my internet provider bill. I eventually solved the problem, but as you say, it often isn't nearly as easy to get a picture ID as conservitards say. For one thing, I had to pony up $35 to get a copy of my birth certificate, and it took three weeks.

But you know what? Let's say that getting a picture ID is easy almost all the time. How many people would/will be disenfranchised by this requirement? A hundred? A thousand? And to what purpose? One is too many!

I might react similarly to a bill saying that left-handed people who are under five feet tall can't vote. Granted, there aren't very many such people. But wouldn't it still be unjust and undemocratic?'

I've gone through the ID process twice in the past five years.  I went onto the dmv web site in two states and printed off the list of stuff that was needed.  I got the stuff that was needed and put it all in a folder as it arrived.  I then drove 4 minutes to the nearest open DMV location.  After all, why would one drive 60 miles round trip to an Indiana DMV when there's lots of closer locations?  Poor planning, I assume.

I managed this without problems and with a little effort.  But I'm really fucking smart, which is obvious when one reads simple instructions put out by the Indiana DMV.

I'm heading to Gulf Shores, Alabama for a golf trip later this year.  It's amazing the work that it takes.  I had to book a condo, after much research.  I had to call four golf courses, after doing much research, to book tee times.  I next researched rental vehicles and decided that if the four of us ship golf clubs back and forth with Lugless, then we will not need an expensive van or full sized SUV.  I then booked a rental car.  I next researched great restaurants and beach bars.  Oh gosh, then I helped the four of us coordinate our flights as we're coming from different states.  Before I leave for this trip I'll have to venture to the UPS store to drop off my golf clubs for shipping.  Of course I'll need to drop of clubs when our last round is complete so the clubs can be shipped back to my home.  Of course, the airlines will make me prove my identity with a GOVERNMENT ISSUE ID.

A well planned person can get an ID in under two hours.  I disorganized person in maybe three hours.  An idiot in four hours.  Then there's the people who drive 50 miles out of their way.  I've spent ten hours on the trip and it took me 90 minutes to get my Real Indiana Drivers Licence.

It's amazing what Liberals whine about.

Boiler is ignorant of the difficulties people can have obtaining a picture ID. He only has one perspective--his own experiences. He literally cannot fathom anyone else's situation. Like a little child, he assumes that if he can do something easily, that must be true for everyone else in the world as well.

And he still, despite patiently repeated lessons, can't spell "liberals"! How can you take someone who can't spell seriously? He does have a sense of humor, though! His statement, "I'm really fucking smart" is the most hilarious thing I've read in weeks!

The stupidest people, like Boiler, don't even know how stupid they are.

My mother is 83.    She doesn't travel...she doesn't drink alcohol,...she doesn't drive.    She has no use for an ID save one ...she votes.   So we had to wheel  her over to the BMV to get her ID.   Good thing we were available to do that - not every senior has kids nearby who are.

I know Mark's situation, and he's making a big deal of nothing.  Here's a link to all of the Indiana BMV sites.  If also attached a link to the Real ID document checklist.  Since I'm crazy fucking smart, I already knew the closest BMV location to my home, although I did check hours on their website.

Now Liberals argue that one shouldn't have to prove their identity when securing an identification document.

I suggest that the next time Mark gets a new Indiana drivers license that he contact me for help.

I can beat Boilerman's claims. Getting my voter ID took me zero effort, zero cost, zero time, and zero thought.

Do you know why? Because I was applying for my driver's license. The voter ID part came FREE.

So let's recap:

Car drivers get their voter ID automatically, without effort, cost, or time.

Non-car drivers, largely urban residents, have to invest time, effort, or cost in order to vote.

Gee, our voting laws favor one demographic over another! What do you know?

I guarantee you that Boilerman thought he was applying for a new driver's license, but changed the wording here because he lacks integrity. That shouldn't surprise anyone here.

Since the liberals don't have any facts to back up the points, they now resort to anecdotes (which may or not be true)

Tommie-poo, you wouldn't know a fact if it bit you on the ass.

People like Boiler and Tommie-poo don't understand that everyone's situation is different and all the free shit they've gotten in their lives may not be available to others.

Again, making it harder for people to vote is evil and undemocratic--adjectives that perfectly describe the RepubliQ party.
