I've proposed, MANY times, a truce between me and Miller, that we would refrain from attacking each other. He always breaks it immediately, and then of course accuses me of havng broken it. 

You may recall his pompous pledge last December, when he announced that he would limit his participation here. Then, a couple of months later, after people pointed out that he was still starting as many as a dozen threads a day, he started bawling and said he was going to take his ball and go home. He didn't.

And surely you've seen how he treats those few posters who are unfailingly polite to him. He shits on them. That includes you--I recall him calling you "obtuse" for DARING to express MILD disagreement with him.

So I think that being polite to a person like Miller is simply wrong--it's also utterly pointless. Does it make him behave? Hell, no.

Politeness may be noble, blah blah, but when it's not an appropriate response, it's counterproductive: it just encourages more impoliteness.

I realize that some people think that smiling and saying "Thank you!" when another person insults them is a deft tactic, blunting the attack with a disarming response. I don't agree. I think a punch in the face is much more effective as a future deterrent.

How is that working for me? I don't take shit from anyone. I used to take shit from everyone, turned the other ass cheek, got kicked in the ass a second, third, and twentieth time as a result. No mas. The world is full of assholes, and the only way to fight them is to respond in kind.

BTW, that attitude, writ large, is what Europe finally learned after being polite and deferential to Hitler.
