Anybody Want A Ford Maverick?

I admit I was skeptical when I first heard Ford was making a small pickup for 20k on a front-wheel-drive platform. I really didn't see the point. I was thinking it would be a single cab and that it would get about 25 MPG for the 20k.

Then when I found it out it comes with a super cab standard and gets 40 MPG, I became a fan. It is an attractive vehicle to boot. Anybody else interested?

Here is the base 20k version.

It offers a lot more utility than a small SUV or small car. I suspect they will sell a lot of them.

"Bigger is Better" is typically the motto of most truck owners.     I think the Ford Ranger and Chevy Colorado offer more than enough bed space and room for most people but those vehicles dont sell nearly as well as their full-size truck brethren.

The Maverick could be a completely decent car but history shows it will be judged poorly by truck lovers.   It will be labeld a "chick car"  ...kinda like the Jeep Renegade.    If it sells well it will be because it appeals to people who arent traditional truck buyers.

Kinda risky.   We'll see how it goes.

Chevy sells as many Colorados as they can make and Ford Sells as many rangers as they can make. And this was before the pandemic. A lot of time those smaller trucks sell for more than the lower trim level fulls size trucks because in normal times you can get almost 10k off the price list on a full-size truck. The lower sales volume on those mid-size trucks is because of limited manufacturing capacity.

Pickup trucks are all about manhood. They're impractical, as in most states, you can't legally carry anything in the truck bed without a commercial license. I suspect Texas is an exception, as in that state, it's illegal to own any vehicle that isn't a pickup truck.

So this small-ish pickup may not fly. As PJ said, everyone wants a 3-ton Ford Manhood with the extended cab and the turbocharged V-18 engine. Sitting up there, lording it over everyone else, you can get revenge for when all the bigger kids used to beat you up every day.

I don't see how a vehicle that bulky could get 40 MPG unless you drove it downhill in a tailwind. But certainly, they're an improvement over the old Ford Mastodon or Chevy Hulk, which got eight gallons to the mile.

Also, there is scientific evidence that getting behind the wheel of a pickup truck lowers your IQ by twenty points.

The big trucks sell nearly 10x as much as the mid size trucks.    And I like the Ranger.  But thats just the sales numbers.

If you are a guy and you buy a Maverick you will be made fun of by your guy friends.   Ask any male Jeep Renegade owner.   And maybe you dont care.  And thats good.   But it will happen.

"They're impractical, as in most states, you can't legally carry anything in the truck bed without a commercial license." Most States????  Name one!   Name a State where I would need a commercial license to haul a thousand pounds of Hay, or firewood, or Dirtbikes, Camping gear, furniture etc in a Ford F-150!   Name one, or if your feeling frisky name all of them.  Just cause they may be impractical to you in your little world, doesn't make them impractical.   Try putting a Fisher Snow Plow on the front of your Prius!

Mark ,mark mark mark mark... don't start bringing facts into the conversation, you're going to confuse the natives!

Bob, you're right. You are almost always quite limited in the size and the weight of the cargo you can carry if you don't have a commercial license, but it's not illegal per se.

Now, calm down before you blow a head gasket.

I'm calm as can be dude, you made false claims,  you can haul a half ton of anything in a half ton truck without a commercial License ! A Class "A" CDL doesn't kick in till you reach 10K - 12K GVW. DEPENDING ON THE STATE! you are so eager to hate, you make up facts!

I said you were right, what else do you want? Perhaps some Valium, Bob? A glass of warm milk? A teddy bear?
