As COVID-19 Spreads Across The US, We Still Aren’t testing people.

Boilerman may not understand that North Korea and South Korea are two different countries. Maybe he thinks they're like North Dakota and South Dakota.

And the "information" needed to mitigate the coronavirus outbreak has been known since the fourteenth century. Isolate. Quarantine. Contain. Of course, South Korea figured that out, and we didn't.

Rightdownthemiddle, sure there is a lot we don't know, but there is also a lot we do know.

South Korea undertook aggressive testing and isolation when their first cases were reported and they had a lot less lead time than we did. This is how their cases are distributed throughout their country.

Here is Thailand. Again with a lot less lead time but a lot more testing and isolation all of their cases are confined to Bangkok. They only have 54 cases there despite how quickly it made its way there.

Here is the US. We did virtually no testing and no isolation.

Even in Italy, there are no cases in the Southen half of the country.  Most of those dots on the US map are going to bloom into significant outbreaks given the model of how it worked in other countries. Again we still don't have widespread testing or any isolation like all of those other countries had.

Trump was caught with his pants down and he has screwed the entire country. He shows every day his concern is limited to the market and nothing else.

Those are very informative maps. However they're not to scale. All the countries you posted would fit in 3 western states of America and have about the same population. As for Trump only caring about the economy, the people who will get hurt the most in this are the poor and lower middle class. He should be worried about that and leave the health end to the experts. Again you use black and white logic when you need to use all the colors.

I don't know what you mean by "colors of logic," but this is indeed a black-and-white issue. Either Trump cares about the poor and moves to mitigate their problems or he doesn't. He's sending mixed messages, and some of his proposals make little sense, but I can't tell whether his concerns are genuine or he's just worried about his reelection prospects. Tonight's speech included some stupid blaming of Europe for the virus--deflecting blame from himself, of course.

My actual hope is that he just gets the fuck out of the way at this point and lets the grownups do their jobs.

Those maps are alot worse in reality given the lack of testing here.     Those maps are actually bad to publish because they give people not in the highlighted areas a false sense of security the virus is not an immediate threat to their zipcode when it likely is.

Colors of logiic is my way of saying there are unintended consequences to all actions. The government needs to take their time and realize that rash actions may help in the short term but be detrimental in the long run. As I stated before this is an airborn disease that is also estimated to able to live on surfaces for up to 4 days. That means if I feel fine and have no reason to be tested but am tested anyway I will then test negative. I then get on an airplane and travel to Vegas and touch a seat that is contaminated on my return. I dont I know have it but know I just tested negative so i think Im bullet proof.  I then walk around and touch and cough on many more surfaces. I just contaminated many more people. 2 weeks later I feel like shit and get retested and test positive. What good did my first test do? Does the government now know its in Phoenix? Its already here. The populace already knows you can get it anywhere/anytime. My first test didnt mitigate anything. The quicker America realizes that this is unstoppable the better.

I think the freaking out by the media has educated people to the virus. This virus is going to spread across all of America. Since its airborn and can live on surfaces for days it cant be stopped and never could be. The blame game just gives the victimhood mentality that grips much of America something to blame when in reality no one is to blame except nature. I love how the people blaming others dont have a plan that will have any better effect than the ones in place. Testing of those who are suspected by doctors of having it should be free. The President has said that he will use the total power of the federal government to combat this virus. He can still activate FEMA to set up hospitals and use the military medical staff as needed. Its not needed yet, but will be.  Im confident his staff is planning this and he will deploy it when needed. He should have mentioned what is being planned behind the scenes in his speach last night. I think he overestimates the general knowledge of the American people and assumes he doesnt need to spell it out.

It's so touchingly naive of you to think that Trump is actually managing this competently when he has not managed anything competently during his entire presidency. Believing he'll actually address the crisis in any meaningful way is like handing a toddler a crescent wrench and expecting him to fix your car.

There is a ray of hope, though. He hates the idea of helping people and at best, is bored by humanitarian efforts. Also, there is no way he can throw a roll of paper towels at the coronavirus. So maybe he'll just slink off to Mar el Lago and sulk, while the few remaining competent professionals handle the problem. Then if and when it's all over, he can pop up his head and claim bigly victory.

An example of how unbalanced he is is his travel ban on...most of Europe, and not on Americans, because as Mike Pence has told us, Americans don't catch Covid-19. His xenophobic shit about China does nothing but distract from the real issue, which is probably exactly what he wants. Also, he hasn't told his Senate and House lackeys (who do anything he tells them) to put down the partisan nonsense and get aid bills passed (he, with breathtaking hypocrisy, told everyone to set aside partisanship).

The man is absolute human garbage and any faith or confidence in him is delusional.

CDC only tested 77 people over the last two days.
