Blocking

No, they weren't. I can still remember my welcome to the forum. The first day I posted I was cussed up and down and threatened with physical violence.  But I can see how you might think it's different.

Back in the day it was mostly conservatives here. Liberals including myself were banned routinely and frequently for poking fun of conservatives like George Bush.  If any liberal dare made a post ACs inbox would fill up with demands that the poster be banned. Often he would to appease his conservative customer base.

However it was then in no way compares to how it has been the past 6+ years.

It's been that way as long as I remember. And Mark wasn't the only one threatened with physical violence for daring to disagree with the conservatives.

David's hypocritical stance that he is totally blameless for the conflict and hostility--that he's as innocent and noble as a choirboy--would be hilarious if it weren't so pathetic.

It's a sad fact that LVAers tend to be conservatives, and openly hostile to those who don't think the way they do. I'm used to the grief I catch for saying blasphemous things like non-white people are human and our elections are honest, but I wish it was different.

Social forums ( like this one) are generally more motivational for participants when there is disagreement...particularly regarding political issues. Agreement with an individual / ideological clique doesn't generally inspire as much comment / engagement as the disagreements do..something related to ubiquitous human nature I guess. Digital fight or flight in some ways, maybe? Eventually the disagreements can devolve into barrier formation where conflicted participants resort to name calling, insultive remarks, misrepresentation /  errant interpretation of real facts, and eventually some loss of reality even occurs. It all becomes about the conflict itself..that becomes the sole motivation as opposed to common courtesy, common sense, compromise, and pursuit of some sort of solution. In some ways, it reminds one of the US Congress, doesn't it.

Next we can argue about the meaningful limits of free speech..what are they? There'll be 40 different definitions and different limits, those variations perhaps influenced greatly by ideology ; maybe that's why it's termed 'free' speech. My own personal limits of that doctrine are often crossed in here..so I'm out. There's better ways for me personally to waste my time ( like busting concrete or remodeling my bathroom...even running the vacuum for the old lady).

I'm choosing not to participate here any more ( with "good riddance, you redneck shitkicker" overheard in the background *l*). You girls have fun..carry on. Lighten up when and if possible...try to have a few laughs. Cheers.

I, for one, hate to see you go Charles - but I understand your reasons. I have enjoyed seeing you comment on the absurd, moronic rhetoric displayed here. I am sure that your leaving, as well as Jerry ice deciding not to participate and my not responding to the sickos who infect the Sink will make these America hating liars happy.

Charles I enjoy your humor and your posts. You should stay.

David..thanks. I'm not leaving to make them happy. I'm leaving for my own reasons ( to preserve what's left of my mental health, for instance..*l*). Good luck..good cards, etc.

Mark..That double entry of yours makes me wary ..a baited trap, maybe? *l* ( kidding). Thanks, but I'm out. I might pop in very rarely..just to annoy the other participants and myself. I'll occasionally be around in the other versions of the LVA Forums where there's less persistent verbal bloodshed. I wish ya well and hope you continue to post your Vegas travel hack / trip report blog..there's some useful info in it occasionally. Good luck.

Kevin, I have to doubt that you can back your "sad fact"(s) up.

I suspect I've been with LVA longer than most, including back when it was only a paper version mailed to the house.  I know this because my BFF and I were so cheap we shared the cost of a membership.  It went to her house, she read it, then passed it on to me.   When the online version started it had most of the forums it has  now, plus a FFA, "Free For All" forum.  It was the only free forum, you had to have a paid membership to read the other forums, hence the name.  the FFA was very lively as I recall.  Some threads got really long but you could just quit clicking if not interested.  Most discussions were civil and in fact helpful, some entertaining.  A few got contentious, mostly just argumentative but even those were never nasty/accusatory/slamming anyone's politics, etc.  I don't even recall any political discourse though there probably was some.  If so I would have just skipped over them.  There was also a 'private' email reader to reader function back then.  I know I made at least 3 friendships from those.  They had enjoyed my postings and subsequently emailed me and eventually we would agree to meet in Las Vegas and did several times.

I think there was also a Kitchen Sink forum originally (online), which I don't recall being the ugly thing it is now.

When LVA first designed the online format it wasn't user friendly.  They redesigned it again to what it is now.  There must have been some concern on AC's part because he asked for a 'vote' whether to keep Kitchen Sink, and I'm recalling he sort of 'warned' in a way that it could get contentious.   I thought it would be fine, but IMHO I was wrong...it is mostly a hot mess not really allowing for friendly discourse about non-Vegas, non-gambling conversation.   It doesn't serve the Kitchen Sink purpose for the greater good/most readers.

Candy, what you have stated here is the way I remember how the Forums used to be - and they certainly were not what todays version of the forums have evolved into.

Candy

Well, Candy, I go by what I see in posts on the various forums, comments on the QoD, etc. When anyone expresses a political opinion, about 3 out of 4 times, it's radical right wing (to use one of that gang's pet adjectives).

Also, people who gamble for fun are less intelligent than normal, and so are conservatives...so there's a correlation. Feel free to consider yourself an exception to either part of the above statement.

It definitely got worse with the advent of Trump and "alternative facts." When the Republican party mutated into the RepubliQ, it became a debate, not of competing ideologies but of competing realities. And public discourse EVERYWHERE got worse.

If the RepubliQ want to fix that (and they don't), they'll have to stop advocating for unalloyed evil (and they won't).
