California is dying

This is so typical of Kevin.  The Associated Press states California's published data, and Kevin calls me a liar for letting people know the truth.  The article tells us that 1.2 million more Americans left the state than moved to the state.  It also tells us that even with the influx of legal immigrants, illegal immigrants, and births, the state population still shrunk by 182,000 people.  The moving of wealth out of the state and an influx of folks who consume lots of social services is unsustainable.  The Liberal solution is to raise taxes, which chases more wealth from the state, and the death spiral continues.

I was in San Diego and LA, last week and I had a great time.  It should be noted, however, that both couples that hosted me are considering moves out of state.  One of my friends retired recently (Boeing engineer), and my other buddy retires in July (Parker Hannifin engineer).  In an effort to be fully transparant, we also visited with another couple who I've also known since school, and these self proclaimed hyper Liberals have no plan to leave California.

If 1.2 million more people left than arrived, how did the population increase by 2.4 million? That was what happened in 2010-2020, which is the time period referred to in Boiler's article. Boiler didn't even understand the numbers he quoted.

The population of California grew by 2.4 million in the decade 2010-2020, including that it shrank by 182,000 in 2020. Any hyperpartisan RepubliQ nutjob can focus on that single year and draw a warped conclusion. The decrease in population occurred during a nationwide pandemic and severe economic recession. Many people left because they could no longer afford the high cost of living when they lost their jobs. 2020 was obviously a unique year. One cannot rationally say that the pandemic was a California phenomenon alone, though things like Boiler told us that was so.

Boiler also lies when he calls his friends "self proclaimed hyper Liberals" (I include his three childish misspellings). His friends do not refer to themselves in that way. Though anyone who is friends with Boiler has several screws loose. Didn't he insult them and call them liberal SOOOCIALIST snowflakes during his visit?

Moron. That's what being a RepubliQ does to your brain. California's a wonderful state and a great place to live, but it will never, never, never be a place for Boiler and his ilk. That's what makes him so sad and angry. That's what makes him lie.

I'm sure he'll have a response to this. It will be yet more lies.

From 2010 to 2019, California lost residents without a college degree and gained residents with at least a bachelor's.

From 2010 to 2019 California lost lower and middle-income residents and gained families making $140,000+.

So according to Boilerman, the under-educated and the poorly paid are "makers," and those who are highly educated and highly paid are "takers."

I think I disagree.

It's a childishly stupid and simplistic way to characterize people. That's why it appeals to Boiler. He should be grateful that all the "makers" in California subsidize his pathetic, poorly educated little Trumper state so he can roll around in all the free shit.

I really think we shouldn't be forking over our tax dollars to prop up failing Trumper states whose people are trying to destroy our democracy. But I would be less bothered by it if they didn't bite the hand that feeds them by complaining about all that liberal soooooocialism. California keeps the Boilers of this country alive, and in return, they shit on it.

Truth be told, California does have its share of problems and many of them are tax based.   Grey Davis killed the state with his ridiculous retirement legislation for public workers which was essentially akin to what the country of Greece did before nearly going bankrupt.   Public workers could retire at 55 with full benefits and salary.   WTF was that?  The pendulum can go too far to the left an California is a good example.

Its also difficult to build in California because zoning and real estate regulations are insane.    Bill Maher chronicled his 3 year endeavor to try and put solar panels on his house whilst navigating the beauracracy of his local officials.    Go on Realtor.com sometime and look at 1 million dollar houses in Southern Cal....They are not just expensive but they are dated.   Many of them were built in the 60's and have not been renovated since.   So a million dollar gets you a crappy 3 bedroom house with one bathroom and a one car garage.

But the main problem is geography.  Despite California's size the desirable places to live are all within 8 miles of the coast and anything in that area costs an insane amount of money due to limited supply and massive demand.      You can live more affordably in San Bernadino if you like which essentially has the same desert climate as Las Vegas.

I love to visit the Golden State but I cant imagine living there.

Yeah, fires are a liberal thing...Democrats cause forest fires. Remember when the RepubliQ propaganda mills were pitching that bullshit last summer?

Climate change is affecting the Pacific Coast states more than any other region in the US. That's why we don't pretend it's some kind of liberal hoax in collaboration with the Chinese, the Deep State, and Hillary.

No I don't remember that.  I read it had something to do with lightning, sparks, winds, and a few trees.

Jeez, do I have to put LOL after everything I post?

Well, since I was in the epicenter of it all for months, I got to read a LOT of the nationwide "informed opinions" about the causes of the fires and who was to blame yada yada yada. Trump let spew some nonsensical crap about how the fires in California were the result of bad forest management and SEE, that's what happens when liberals run things, Hillary sent emails, blah blah blah belch grunt snort.

Fox "News" and all the rest of the scum took that ball and ran with it. No one, however, least of all Trump, bothered to find out that the vast majority of the fires had started on National Forest or BLM land---in other words, federal land. So if it was a matter of bad forest management, the blame fell squarely on the Trump administration, and his sycophantic, corrupt, oil industry-loving Secretary of the Interior, Ryan Zinke.

California is in the midst of a prolonged drought cycle, which while normal for the state as a general rule, has been prolonged and exacerbated by climate change. That's a serious problem that should be factored into forest management, but it was pretty hard to do anything when the ruling party had the denial of climate change as one of its central policy tenets.

"California's population fell by more than 182,000 people in 2020, marking the first year-over-year loss ever recorded for the nation's most populous state.

State officials announced Friday that California's population dipped 0.46% to just under 39.5 million people from January 2020 to January 2021."

Pop quiz, boys and girls: what was unusual about 2020?

If you got that one right, here's a follow-up question: Does it make sense to draw any kind of overall, general conclusion based on a single data point?

And then, for you really advanced folk: What if that single data point is an outlier?
