"Casinos for Sale ! Casinos for Sale ! Come get yourself a casino !"

IMHO this is really bad news for Vegas as we know it.  Kevin may get his wish for a massive failure.

Crappy, nasty thing to say, Candy. I never said I wish for that to happen. I only said that I think it will.

You don't have to descend to the level of Tom, woodpecker, Stalker, etc.

Assuming your comments were made in jest, your casino would become a shit show. Be overtaken by the homeless and rooms filled with the most undesirables. But you could pack a lot of cots into the convention area at $5 per night.

How would it be "overtaken by the homeless" if the rooms still cost money to rent? Even $39 a night is about $1200 a month--plus taxes. I don't know who are "undesirables" to you, but it sounds like you're echoing the recent stupid, nasty shit that Adelson's propaganda rag has been printing.

As I said in reply to another poster, the business approach I described was EXACTLY the way many Vegas casinos operated during the boom years of the 1990s and 2000s. It worked great, but unfortunately, that made many of their properties prime takeover targets.

There's LOTS of room in the Vegas casino market for a low-roller, player-friendly casino--especially now, when peop have less money and less incentive to come to Vegas, I don't expect the myopic casino suits to recognize that, though.

Aw, Kevin, chill out.  I was winking at the "Kevin hates Vegas" bandwagon.  I think you are a "devil's advocate" kind of guy (and I do a lot of that myself).  You point out the downside, the negatives, etc., albeit in a party-pooper kind of way, but your opinions.  I think you wish Vegas is what it once was gambling wise and Covid-wise.  And you are passionate about why folks don't take the only steps we know of to tamp it down.  We've know for long enough now, have heard from plenty of science/disease experts that wearing masks and avoiding crowds are critical, basically all we have.  And they aren't perfect, just all we have.

Maybe if Sheldon hadn't spent so much money on Trumpie poo, he would be able to keep his casinos afloat? Since the reason cited is they don't expect conventions to return anytime soon, it sounds like they don't believe the shit trump has been selling. You know we have turned the corner and we will have a vaccine in November.

I find it odd Sheldon is singlehandedly keeping the Republican party fiscally afloat while he holds a fire sale on his US casinos because of the incompetence of the politicians he supports.

I wouldn't worry I am sure some venture capital firm will step forward thinking they can run the casinos by slashing costs, tightening the odds, raising prices, raising fees and eliminating maintenance and upkeep.

I do that because a) no matter how you slice it, most of the developments in Vegas, especially in the last five years, have indeed been negative b) I definitely miss the good old Vegas days, and I know damn well the casinos were making gobs of money then c) so much of what you hear about Vegas is glad-hand rah-rah, in no small part because most of the sources of that info have a direct financial interest in painting a rosy picture. That even includes LVA, though they certainly don't shy away from criticism, albeit in a muted, measured way (unlike yours truly, guilty as charged).

And yeah, it does make my blood boil that people are getting sick and dying because their neighbors can't be bothered to wear a bleepity blankety mask. I wonder if mask compliance would increase if people realized that in many instances, they look less unattractive with a mask over their faces.

And I'm not a party-pooper. The party is already ankle-deep in poop, and I had nothing to do with it.

No sane company would buy those properties, except perhaps at fire-sale prices. Vegas has begun a years-long decline, and won't be back to "normal" for a decade.

I will drop Mr. Adelson a line and offer him twenty bucks for all three properties. I will NOT charge resort fees, parking will be free, blackjacks will pay 3:2, and there will be lots of fullpay video poker and a generous slot club. Table minimums will be $5. Rooms will be $49 on weekdays and $69 on weekends!

And I'll make more money than Adelson ever did!

Wow.  Kevin claims that he could make money if he gets $6 billion of facilities and assets for free.  That would take some serious business acumin.

Does Kevin even know the debt load that The Sands is paying on?  Oh wait, that's Kevin's business model............buy $6 billion in assets for $20.  How much can debt payments be on 20 bucks?

And a haircut and shave were 2 bits once upon a time. Oh! and barbers made money at those prices too.

Apples and oranges, Boiler. I said I would make money. If that money would be used for debt service or paid to shareholders, it would still be profit. My point, which I'm sure even you dimly understand, despite the cognitive fog in which you operate, is that a massive casino operation that relies on high prices and lousy gambling will not make money in today's economy, which is why Adelson is unloading his US casino assets.

Kevin, debt payments are a business expense, and these expenses decrease profit or increase losses.

I don't argue against your view that casinos with huge debt loads can't make money in today's economic climate.  They can't make money and they won't for a long time.  Some people like the fancy multi billion dollar casinos, and somehow this expense has to be paid............and that's not going to happen with $39 rooms.

It's a math thing that confuses so many.

Actually, I have enjoyed the  mask wearing for one reason:  Makeup (as in cosmetics).  I realized there is no need to take the time and trouble to apply foundation, lipstick, etc., even to worry what my hair looks like.  My whole "look" is altered by the mask, which IMO is a good thing, LOL.  I've stopped wearing earrings because they get tangled with the ear loops. So many fewer decisions to make in getting dressed to go somewhere (grocery, pharmacy, even church).  I think I'd like to wear a mask for the rest of my life.  I'm serious here.

Yesterday it turned very cold outside and I had several errands to do.  The mask (cloth) kept my face warm from car to store and back etc.  I kept it on in the car, walking to and from places, the whole time, never took it off leaving the house until I returned.

Actually, masks can be fashion statements in themselves.  Camo, outdoorsy, your sports team, your school spirit, work logos, color matching to outfits, even...gasp...political statements.   The sky is the limit!
