And I suppose criticizing and antagonizing China would be a more efffective strategy at this time , right? Ever hear the phrase, " keep your friends close and your enemies closer"? Like one of the 12 blind mice describing an elephant, you only see one part of the total picture.
Such an about-face, after Trump crippled the economy of Middle America with hate-based stupid tariffs. Back then (so long ago!), for Trump, China was the Evil Empire.
Trump is (accidentally) right. China has done a great job of containment. They were able to do so because they have an authoritarian government and a collectivist, conformist culture. They issued orders, and everyone obeyed.
That's not the sort of government/system I'd want to live under, but it IS effective in emergency situations. That's why even democratic societies suspend civil liberties during disasters, wartime, etc.
We have a lot of freedoms here, but those freedoms can be abused--and people ignoring social distancing are doing exactly that.
