I just caught Senator (R) John Kennedy, Lousiana, on CNN defending the President. Now in all fairness he did say he has not seen the transcript. He did ask the commentator If she was talking about the Bob Woodward book. He might have been caught off guard. He explained that this is just another "Gotcha Book"and they come out quite frequent. Going on, his personal experience with the president and his Covid response to the state of Lousiana was good. Concluding with the President's actions speak louder than his words.

No, we are not being "played" at all. These are Trump's words on audiotape. What Trump said is counter to the defense Trump and his supporters have been giving for months. Poor Trump! He was fooled by the Communist Chinese how could you falt him? Who could have known how serious this would be? No Monday morning quarterbacking.
What it shows is Trump's callous indifference to American lives. Trump could have spoken positively and prepared at the same time making sure we had enough protective gear, enough ventilators, effective testing. a contact tracing system in place started social distancing and started funding vaccines earlier.
Instead, he sat on his fat ass and did nothing. He made the cold calculation that it would primarily stay in blue states and he could blame democratic governors for the problem. He was thinking it would be a big political win even though he knew hundreds of thousands of Americans would have to die for him to get his win. Just yesterday he was boohooing in public about how he would be ahead in the polls if it weren't for COVID-19. If he had simply done the right thing and prepared, he could have gotten a political victory for holding infections down and getting us back to normal sooner. In his mind, he is the only real victim of COVID-19.
He is a sick, sick person. Anybody that thinks it is ok to kill hundreds of thousands of Americans to score a political victory ought to remove themselves from society as they are sociopath that has and intends to harm more people for their personal gain.
This is a Vegas site and MisterPicture I would love to bet you on the 400,000 deaths by years end! This virus does not scare me at all, it will take way less lives than smoking does which is 480,000 DEATHS PER YEAR!!!!!

There is an ongoing effort to reduce smoking and there has been for the last 30+ years. Smoking isn't contagious. I can't walk next to a smoker and pick up a smoking habit that will kill me. Smokers aren't even allowed in public buildings while smoking. They also pay higher rates for health insurance.
Yet, we let COVID deniers walk around in public buildings spreading a contagious infection because we don't want to offend them. They have to wear a shirt and shoes when they go into a public building but wearing a cloth mask during a pandemic is too big of an ask for these hedonists.
The economy shut down worldwide not just here in the US. It is lunacy to think that everything could have stayed open with such a decrease in demand. We are an international laughing stock. When the worldwide economy opens, we will be left behind because we still have no handle on the virus.

At least not in any group insurance I paid into. My premiums paid for everyone else's diseases I don't have, pregnancies and their children's health care I didn't have, lung cancer treatments, and so on.
Perhaps when one applies for individual health insurance, are they asked if they smoke, yes or no? And does that result in a higher premium for one who answers YES?
Of course Mark is correct in one way: The health risks and outcomes from smoking contribute to how the companies determine group premiums. But every member of that group pays, not just smokers.
