A country with 71 million Trumpers

Can we even function? I mean, think of it...all these people had four years to observe Trump and voted for him anyway. This means that there are 71 million people who have a fundamentally different view from normal people on such basic concepts as honesty, integrity, ethics, decency, competence, justice...it boggles the mind.

So, how can we live with these people---and how can they live with us? Or should we all just move to the coasts, or inland, as our respective inclinations dictate, and not even try to "unite," when it's clear that they have no interest in unity or compromise?

I don't see us being able to restore democracy when it's clear that almost half of the citizenry doesn't want it in the first place. I don't see us achieving racial justice when it's clear that almost half of the country views people of color with a visceral, abiding hatred. I don't see us addressing income inequality when almost half of the country has been trained to bolt upright and scream "SOOOOOCIALISM!!!" every time any measures, even very mild ones, are mentioned. And I can't see meaningful gun control measures being enacted when almost half the country fondles their guns lovingly and fantsizes about shooting someone.

I for one favor secession and breakup--one Pacific nation, one Atlantic nation, and the remainder a festering cesspool of Trumpism, race hatred, corruption, and oligarchical rule. We are already the "United" States of America in name only. Let's make it official.

Kevin Lewis inquires:

"Can we even function?"

Poor old DonDiego has noticed no difference in his daily functions, including interactions with his fellow Countrymen, of whom he is ignorant as to their recent voting history.  Perhaps the Founding Fathers were wise in instituting "secret" ballots.

Poor old DonDiego presumedly lives among folks who voted differently than he, who voted the same as he, and whom DonDiego doesn't know how they voted.  It's easy.  [If it isn't easy for Kevin Lewis, umm, where might the problem lie?]

Poor old DonDiego is not surprised that Kevin Lewis supposes a "solution" wherein masses of voters are to be relocated so as to ensure, . . . well, . . umm, . . . poor old DonDiego is not sure what the objective is, other than Kevin Lewis finds living among those with whom he might disagree, . . . umm, intolerable.

Poor old DonDiego also supposes such a forced migration would involve significant costs He would hope this project is not paid for by poor old DonDiego's taxes; perhaps Kevin Lewis can initiate private-fundraising for the project.

Wait a minute ! ! !

A simpler solution would be that Kevin Lewis remove himself to somewhere where he is not so offended by his neighbors.  [Before he selects his relocation target, poor old DonDiego suggests that Kevin Lewis consider that of the top-10 US Cities with the most violent crime, 9 are run by Democrats and 1 is run by an independent. Ref: BBC News ]

DonDIego has a front row view of a marriage between Trump ideology and that of Bernie Sanders.   Tennessee offers its residents  free college but no Medicaid Expansion.   Its just like Romeo and Juliet.

Wait a minute ! ! !

Free College ? ? ?

Poor old DonDiego never got free college ! ! !

DonDiego repeats the very, very tired conservative mantra that large cities--which tend to have higher crime rates than other areas--are "run by Democrats."

This sort of nonsensical, hate-fueled crap is precisely why I don't want to be around people like DonDiego. First of all, NO city, large or small, is "run by" any political party. Cities are run by the people who are elected to office. Secondly, DonDiego purposely ignores the fallacy of equating correlation with causation. Large cities tend to have high crime rates. Large cities have a lot of Chinese restaurants. Large cities tend to elect Democratic officials. Therefore, one quick and easy way to reduce crime would be to burn down all the Chinese restaurants. Large cities also tend to have, uh, a lot of people living in close proximity, which fosters crime. Thar t'aint much crime on Clem's hog farm.

DonDiego also ignores the root cause of urban crime, which is income inequality, The party he serves constantly blocks any efforts to address that fundamental structural problem, crying "SOOOOOOCIALISM!!!!"

DonDiego falsely states (as in. lies about) what I said. I said that we should all move to the places where we might find agreement. I did not advocate forced migration. But really, why would any conservative want to live in a state where Blacks and Hispanics have civil rights and are allowed to vote, and abortion clinics are allowed to operate without being blown up or shot at?

"Poor old DonDiego has noticed no difference in his daily functions, including interactions with his fellow Countrymen, of whom he is ignorant as to their recent voting history.  Perhaps the Founding Fathers were wise in instituting "secret" ballots."

Note:  The Founding Fathers did not institute "secret" ballots.  In fact, oral voting was universal in in-person voting until well after the Civil War.  And, it was well into the 1890s and 1900s before it became the preferred method.

Poor old DonDiego thanks Dealer1 for the correction re: "secret ballots".

In Mexico, one can enter the voting booth with another, potentially offering a reward for certain vote, or a promise of violence for that vote.

It's a Liberal utopia!

Nonsense. Bullshit. A lie.

I must applaud Boilerman for spelling "Mexico" correctly, even though he spelled "liberal" wrong.

In AMerica the sitting president permetes lies about non-existant voter fraud in an attempt to maintain power....and then fires his own security personnel that publicly debunk him.

Its a Trump Utopia....good thing he lost...badly.
