Do you support removing illegal aliens from Medicaid to protect resources for American citizens?

Sort of like "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer" kind of thinking on Goebbels' part?

Like the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz, allegiance to the controlling witch, helping her abuse other people.

I don't think it was even that deep on the part of Goebbels. First and foremost, he became powerful and rich by hitching his wagon to Hitler's star early in the game. Actually doing his job/function was easy: he lied. Continually. In fact, his signature tool was "The Big Lie." Paradoxically, people are often more willing to swallow a big lie rather than a small one, especially if the former is repeated often enough.

Look at how MAGA uses the Big Lie. The 2020 election was rigged. We're being flooded by illegal immigrants and they're all criminals. Haitian immigrants are eating cats. Et cetera. All obviously bullshit, but repeated over and over so that many people believe it.

It's a crude tactic that works.

Funny! If I'm chatting with tom, I'll read his sources; many times, his conclusion isn't supported by the source he cites.

It's really very odd to be so biased that you read an article and you only see what you want to believe. What a sad existence.

I think there are a lot of people (not necessarily on the forum but in general) that read a headline and that's about it. If the headline kind of fits with they are trying to say they stop there and don't bother to read the full article.

Yeah, true, but to extend the metaphor, what Miller is doing is more than reading the headline of a newspaper story; he's reading only the headline, then thrusting the newspaper into people's faces and screaming "READ THE TRUTH!!!"

Also, most of us don't get our information from the Miscellaneous Collection of Rando Internet Idiots, so we know that any headline is just an attempt to summarize and may need context. And of course, if from sources as low-quality and biased as those chosen by David and Tom, the headline can easily be complete bullshit and/or not even accurately describe what's in the body of the story.

Sounds great, I will ignore him and you can let us know when he adds value to the community. JMHO. NC

Read it again.  I said there might be something that "I" add in my reply that might be of value to the community.  Or to somebody, even one person.   Not a certainty for sure, but a possibility.

Nor should we.  This demonization and scapegoating of immigrants has gotten clearly out of hand.  Modern nativists will fair no better than the Know Nothings, the Klan, and other xenophobic groups in history's perspective.  What is disturbing is that a majority of us elected such people knowing what they we saying and would do.  That shame is on us.

We certainly have the ability, the resources, the infrastructure, and the technology to cut the Gordian knot: the criterion for receiving medical care is that you're a human being who needs it. That's what most other civilized nations do, and they have no trouble providing it at half the cost of our system.

This is where MAGA chimes in and says yeah, yeah, but it takes eleven months to get a headectomy in Liechtenstein. The reality, though, is that we have LONGER wait times for specialized care because we have a shortage of doctors, and the reason for that is that our population is aging but the proportion of new doctors entering the profession is declining. That issue is being addressed in nations where the healthcare system is government-run. It's being ignored here, where it's run by giant corporations.

My personal views are even more fundamental. I cannot abide the thought of a person needing medical treatment, our having the ability to provide it, and it being refused. That's simply awful. So if a FEELTHY IMMERGENT shows up at the ER, treat him, for Christ's sake. Don't spend any time deciding whether he's worthy. He's worthy because he needs it. End of fucking story.

One could also sift carefully through the dirt in a pigsty to find something about which one could make a trenchant comment or intriguing observation. But I'm an advantage player, and trying to do that with a Miller post is definitely against the odds and negative EV.

Plus, there's the smell to contend with; worse than the pigsty, actually.
