Any responsible leader would have addressed the crisis as soon as the danger became apparent. Trump wasted six weeks, which could have been used to make test kits, PPE, and ventilators. Instead, he fell back on his tired old strategy of racism, xenophobia, and travel bans.

Then, when the danger became obvious, he wasted two more weeks lying, fantasizing, downplaying the danger, and insulting people.

So what would I have done? Everything that's being done now, and more--but in January. We were warned. Trump ignored those warnings.

And why? He wanted to avoid hurting his reelection prospects. The deaths of a hundred thousand people are strictly a secondary consideration.

When President Trump put in travel restrictions & the media called him a racist. 

There were numerous recommendations over the years for federal & state govts to get more equipment but were ignored. 

Remember when the stooges repeatedly said the virus was no big deal. 

As recently as 3 weeks ago Comrade diblasio & his health commissioner were giving out movie recommendations. He also refused to close the schools & his board of Ed commissioner was telling the principals not to report virus cases. 

Subway & bus service has been significantly reduced, with the result being overcrowded trains & buses. 

As a result NYC is the leader in cases. 

Yes, de Bliaso's behavior was awful and that damaged New York City.

And Trump's behavior was awful and that damaged our entire country.

Places like South Korea and the San Francisco Bay area handled it much better. Leadership matters.

But he's far from unique! Trump told him and millions of his followers that the coronavirus was no big deal. And they believed him! Now, when Trump refuses to send supplies to NYC and blames its mayor for the virus, they believe him as well.

Anything to deflect attention from Trump's deadly, criminal incompetence.
