But to address your point, yes, of course, oil prices are ridiculously high, primarily because the fossil fuel industry isn't a free market. But even a cartel breaks down eventually when the prospect of unprecedented juicy delicious profits looms.
This of course is a strong argument for the nationalization of the fossil fuel industry. And yeah, I know, socialism socialism socialism.
