Greyhound Racing may may end in USA

https://www.casino.org/news/greyhound-racing-nears-end-in-us-after-historic-house-vote/

My wife and I have been involved in adopting Greyhounds off the track for 30 years. We do not support racing and have always hoped for it to end. It looks like that may happen. We have two Greyhounds at the house now and agree we are at an age where we can not continue taking in big dogs.

There are so many things to bet on I do not see the need to get an innocent animal involved. I hope this passes and it becomes law.

I'm sorry but I do not feel the federal government has the Constitutional authority to ban animal racing. This is a State issue.

On a side note, if dog racing is to be banned, why not horse racing?

I am admittedly somewhat ignorant about the industry because my state doesn't allow it. Is there something uniquely abusive about dog racing that doesn't apply to horse racing or other animal industries?

Usually I hear about underperforming dogs getting killed but the same thing happens to horses, show dogs, and animals that are trained for other purposes.

It seems like there can be some regulatory fixes that don't require prohibition.

I believe all gambling involving animals should not be allowed. I don't care if it is at the federal or state level. It is wrong. I have been involved in Greyhound rescue for 30 years so that is what I thought might be of interest.

I don't think it is abusive to the animals, because they like to run/race/play (bred for it). Same as race horses.

I think that the gambling part is stupid, it's unproductive, and it costs people money, but I could say that about many forms of entertainment (slot machines!).

I'm curious as to what the rationale for this ban was. I'm quite surprised that evidently, Republicans supported this bill, because they've always been the animal abuse party.

Dog racing has really gone away in our area.  But so have the greyhounds.  If they are not able to race do you think they will become extinct.  Farmers do not use plow horses to work the fields, so they are no longer bred.  I haven't seen a doberman in years since we have better secutity.  Not even in movies.  I don't think dog racing is the same as cock fighting or dog fighting

If you don't think it's abusive to animals then you may want to do some research on the topic. It is not a political post, it is a post about the innocent animals involved in betting.

Let's go a step further and ban football, hockey, boxing, UFC - all contact sports - they are composed of innocent human animals...

What is your point? Humans have a choice to participate, do Greyhounds?
