I'm talking about 2026 and Greyhound racing still existing in West Virginia, not at all understanding what the ancient Romans have to do with this?

Candy's analogy is apt, in that in the gladiatoral games, like the modern greyhound races:
a) The participants were various degrees of unwilling
b) There was an excellent chance of injury or death
c) The spectacle was meant to entertain the masses
d) There was lots of betting on the outcome
e) Vendors sold hot dogs, which had been made from the previous day's losers
I think she was saying that there's nothing new under the sun, and that exploitative entertainment has always been a fundamental element of Western civilization. We just use animals now instead of slaves.
