Help me out - is this as crazy as Ice Cream?

Tennessee Congressman in the wake of shooting

"We're not gonna fix it," when asked what Congress would do about school shootings.

“If you want to legislate evil, it’s just not going to happen,” Burchett said. "We need a real revival in this country. Let’s call on our Christian ministers and our people of faith.”

Also when asked about how he protects his own school age daughter - he replied that she is homeschooled so problem solved.

This is government as run by a religous cult.    Their solution to gun violence- sing hymns and bring a dish to your church picnic.

Yes, that is just as crazy.  I'm not debating that.

Congress isn't going to fix shit though; that isn't the answer.  We waste so much on government spending in this country, why don't we just hire armed guards for every school.  Wouldn't that solve something?  (at least in schools)  It would be better $ spent than 75% of the crap it is spent on now.

Sidenote:  I mean, we have the weakest adult members of society in teachers there as well.  So kids and teachers really probably need the armed guards at a minimum.

Proper, responsible legislation wouldn't impose any significant costs at all. Punish gun sellers as accessories to murder. Allow victims of gun violence to sue gun manufacturers. That sort of thing.

But above all that.. de-fetishize guns and gun love.

And putting armed guards in schools just means that the Republican mass shooters will take a moment to kill the guards before starting in on the kids.

Yeah because the armed guards won't be trained or anything......

And they rarely will be in the right places at the right times.

And as long as parents use video games as baby-sitters for their angry dope-smoking teens, not to mention equip them with guns to take to school, heaven help us all.

Well, if they're Republicans, you'd have to worry about them killing the kids. And if they're not...are they going to have urban combat training and such? Or are they just going to be security guards with guns? You want someone with actual expertise to the point where they could get the drop on the evil nogoodnik (by being everywhere at once, I guess), you'd have to pay a lot more than minimum wage, which is what most security guards get. Which would mean taking money away from other school resources, or---GASP!---raising taxes.

It would be much more cost-effective to de-Trump the population. But that may be difficult with a Trumpy Congress supported by the 75 million.

Cowboy Bob was so proud when his six-year-old learned to group six shots in the center of the target at the gun range. Don't worry, he told his wife, Cowboy Betty, Junior won't use that gun except in a dire emergency.

Of course, Junior would consider another kid taking his ball as a dire emergency. But that ain't a'gonna happen when the other kids see he's packin' heat.

I just worry about the gun battle in the cafeteria when one kid takes the last fruit cup.

Wasn't the cop at Parkland trained?

How'd that work out?

Metal detectors and armed trained guards at the main doors.  Not that hard.  I know it is difficult for you guys to apply common sense though.  So how are they not going to be in the right spot, again?  There won't be any guns in the school.  The guards will just be at the main entrances.  Do you think they will be touring the library and pool when someone comes to the main entry door, Candy?

And yeah, I'd pay them what we need to.  Way better than most of our tax money goes for.  Schools are filthy rich here in WI.  We can't seem to spend all the $ fast enough so we are building huge football stadiums to burn it up.  We aren't raising taxes in most of our school districts so I'm not sure what you are talking about.

Even a small school has multiple entrances. Not to mention other points of entry, such as windows. And the kids have to be let in and out. It's not nearly as easy, or as foolproof, as you think it is. And what's to keep a school shooter from picking an entrance and simply blowing away the guard at that entrance?

Making it effortless for a nutjob to obtain a gun and then trying to institute a fortress mentality is kind of thinking backwards, isn't it? Why not address the root of the problem--gun love and goobers?
