Mark, I think it's unfair to compare 14 year old girls to old white MAGAs. Many of the former group are quite intelligent and emotionally stable.

I read a long and detailed article in the New York Times (sorry I can't post a link; it's behind a paywall) that cited several academic studies re how social media deliberately not only creates but also amplifies social division, conspiracy theories, and extremism.
The most striking finding was essentially an answer to the question: "Why, after all that has transpired, do so many people still love Trump?" The answer, by consensus, was that most of those who follow the Orange Turd feel left out, neglected, diminished by society in some way. They're usually on the bottom rungs of the social ladder--economically, socially, educationally. So, worshipping an authoritarian leader gives their lives meaning that they otherwise lack. The often absurd nature of the conspiracy theories to which they subscribe is outweighed by the simple fact that those theories make them feel good.
These are neglected losers who want sympathy and attention. Most of all, as they survey the wreckage of their lives, they desperately want to "prove" that it was all someone else's fault that they failed. For Stalker, that's liberals. For Boiler, that's Mexicans and Black people. For Tommie-poo, that's immigrants and Joe Biden. Anyone but themselves to blame for their current misery.
And how does Facebook factor into that? Well, as Stalker has so amply demonstrated, you can easily find on Facebook just about any lunatic bullcrap you wish. Democrats eat babies? Check. Trillions of immigrants flooding across the border? Check. Vaccines will kill you? Check. The moon is made of tofu? Check. Obama is a space alien? Check.
The article went on to say that after people find these self-validating videos, a vital step in the process is for these losers to "share" them. Almost always, they label those videos "THE TRUTH!!!," apparently feeling that those who will see the videos are too dense to figure out their priceless wisdom on their own.
