How can corona cases be increasing while deaths are dropping

Any ideas?

Any clue?

Increased testing. There always were more cases in the population than had been actually confirmed, due to the fact that so many asymptomatic people were carrying the virus and had not been tested. Plus, there were and are quite a few people whose symptoms are so mild, they may not even suspect they had/have the virus.

So the cases we're detecting now are largely those who have been only mildly affected or not affected at all--however, they are still carriers and can infect others. That pretty much depends on the availability of testing in a given area--if more tests are available, then the number of reported cases will go up pretty rapidly.

The CDC's report, crushed by the White House, estimated that 25% of those infected are asymptomatic and another 20% have quite mild symptoms. So if everyone was tested, the number of reported cases would roughly double. I got a chance to read the report before Trump squelched it. Interesting reading, but no longer available to the public.

The people who got sick enough to be hospitalized were tested and recorded as positive cases early on. Because that number (hospital admissions) is dropping, so is the number of deaths.

However, it would be a HUGE mistake to assume that everybody has been exposed to the virus and therefore, we've seen all the deaths we're going to see. The CDC estimates that a low of 20% and a high of 40% of US citizens have been exposed to the virus. In other words, we ain't seen nothin' yet.

We're seeing pretty much the whole nation giving the middle finger to staying inside, wearing masks, and observing social distancing, so a second wave is inevitable and could very easily be worse than the first one. The only positive aspect is that by the time the second wave hits, we might have some effective therapies (NOT cures).

First, it is important to note deaths aren't declining everywhere. Texas, Mississippi and Wisconson lead the pack.

A couple of factors are at play here.

1.  They are finally testing more.

2.  Several mostly red states are cheating on the numbers. A lot of states have decided not to include nursing homes, meat processing plants, prisons and manufacturing plants when counting new cases and/or deaths.

Conclusion: The declining deaths are largely a result of not including the most vulnerable people in the death count.

Increased testing, especially of non-symptomatic subjects.

Earlier interventions.

Expanded capacity in ICUs.

Improved treatment regimens.

...and I am sure there are other factors.

OR MAYBE IT'S A GIANT CONSPIRACY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, Hilery's e-mails...

Benghazi!!!

Mark opines:

Source, please?

Poor old DonDiego doubts it.

But mostly poor old DonDiego doesn't understand.

He can comprehend the possibility of excluding nursing home deaths, because the decedents live there.

But how does one exclude those who work in meat processing plants and manufacturing plants ?

Mark, I've been to many state corona sites, and I've not one that ignore deaths at nursing home, meat plants, prisions, ect..  They list is seperately.

I mostly agree with things being said.  Interesting.
