I Am Off to Vegas Tomorrow

Zenshin is great, especially their happy hour menu, which has extended hours. I wouldn't recommend the Mexican joint on the second floor--with so many other excellent Mexican restaurants in town. Primarily Prime Rib is very good, but I don't think they do lunch.

Thanks for the Zenshin info and the heads up on the Mexican place.  We actually like the Lindo Michoacan at the Palace Station which is a 10 min. drive from our time share. 

We have never had a bad meal at the mexican place at South Point, but have only been there 3 times.

  The Baja Miguel restaurant @ South Point is one of my favorites. Being from Texas, I know what great Mexican food tastes like. The portions are huge and delivered with quick service. They have a great Happy Hour. I have never had a bad meal there.The place is always packed. They obviously must be doing something right.

That might be why I don't like it all that much. Tex-Mex is one of at least seven regional Mexican cuisines, and IMHO the worst--kind of bastardized. I'm more used to CaliMex and Sonoran. But my two favorites are Veracruz--the BEST for seafood, and Oaxacan, both of which are far enough geographically from the US that they just haven't become popular there.

Because I'm familiar with all the regional Mexican cuisines that don't make much of an appearance north of the border, I don't really go for Tex-Mex, which has always seemed kind of heavy, meat-centric, and more American than Mexican. But I realize that for many people, Tex-Mex IS Mexican food.

FWIW, Baja Miguel, despite the name and the implied region their food is based on, is Tex-Mex, not CaliMex or Sonoran.
