In The Dead Of Night Republicans Sneak In A Billion Dollars For Trump’s Ballroom

They will likely pass a bill and it will come out of the general budget. So more or less they will borrow money and increase the national debt to do it. We will all pay through the inflation tax.

It is hard to estimate the cost for a individual taxpayer but just as an idea. There are approximately 165 million taxpayers in the United States. If the cost is 400 million dollars that averages to roughly $240 per taxpayer.

Pretty steep cost considering they swore up and down that it was already paid for with private donations.

So, we pay no taxes on the rest of the White House?  Upkeep?  Salaries?  Lawn care?   Limos?  Gas for the limos?

Every part of it has been remodeled or updated in some way through the years.

Taxpayers aren't dunned for any part of the life of a POTUS?

Just curious, all the outrage about the ballroom.   How is it apportioned?  Like, how much will I pay, how will I know, and will that be reflected next  April at tax time?  Or quietly added to some other line item we don't 'see'?

Just askin'.

Candy...

First of all, what Trump is doing far exceeds "remodeling" or "updating." It it the total destruction of a major part of the White House and replacing it with a tasteless, gaudy shrine to Trump. Imagine, if you will, the Statue of Liberty being "remodeled" so that she's wearing a red MAGA baseball cap and sporting a miniskirt, or if the Washington Monument was renamed "Trump's Penis" and reshaped accordingly.

But the cost of that destruction and replacement isn't even the biggest issue. It's the defacing of one of our most cherished national monuments. The White House is the Presidential residence, not that of A President.

As far as funding goes, this idiocy, including the Fuhrerbunker Trump plans to build, is projected to cost $2.4 billion, and that will be in the general budget. Figure on it hitting $3 billion when it's finished. There are about 160 million taxpayers in the US. Call it about $200 per.

As far as keeping the President housed, fed, protected, blowjobs provided, etc , that's baked into the federal budget as well and never gets seriously contested. I did look up the numbers, and the annual expense for running the White House is listed at $265 million, or about $17 per taxpayer.

So building Karinhall with the Fuhrerbunker beneath it (look up the references) will cost each of us far more than just running and maintaining the existing residence.

Here are some things that are convenietly left out from this post and responses --  From Google today  --     Major White House renovations have occurred throughout its history to address structural issues and update living spaces. Key presidents who conducted significant remodels include Harry S. Truman (complete interior gutting, 1948–1952), Theodore Roosevelt (West Wing construction, 1902), Franklin D. Roosevelt (expanded West Wing/Oval Office, 1934), and Calvin Coolidge (added third floor, 1927) ----       Here are the key renovations and the presidents involved:Harry S. Truman (1948–1952): Led the most extensive renovation in history, gutting the interior down to the exterior walls due to structural decay, strengthening the foundation, and rebuilding it.----Theodore Roosevelt (1902): Authorized a massive renovation that built the West Wing and modernized plumbing, lighting, and heating.--- Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933–1942): Expanded the West Wing, relocated the Oval Office to its current location, and completed the East Wing.--- Calvin Coolidge (1927): Oversaw the expansion of the third floor.--- John F. Kennedy/Jacqueline Kennedy (1961-1963): Famous for restoring the interior with historic furnishings and creating the modern Rose Garden.----  Richard Nixon (1970s): Converted the indoor pool into the current press briefing room.Other Notable Upgrades: Thomas Jefferson added terraces in 1803;---   James Monroe built the South Portico in 1824; --- and Barack Obama replaced a tennis court with a basketball court.  --- It begs the question - Where did the funding for all of these projects come from?

David, How many of those were done without the approval of Congress and with a false claim it was completely paid for with private donations?

To my knowledge all previous major renovations had congressional approval.
