Yeah, but he also said he was going to pass a health care law that would cover everyone at a lower cost to the government and patient than Obamacare and we saw how that turned out.
Once his handlers get ahold of him, Trump will pretend he never said it.

Our resident Trumpers have repeatedly shown that they're absolutely scared shitless of it. (They've also shown that they don't really understand what it is.)
I'll hypothesize about the genesis of Trump's statement (other than, of course, his ass, from whence all his ideas come). One of his lackeys told him what you reported earlier, that support for universal health care is rising. So that's an issue that might hurt him in the election, especially given his recent efforts to destroy Americans' health care. So he, as he so often does, floated some random statement. We know he's a stream-of-consciousness kind of guy.
We also know that only thing he gives two shits about is his reelection chances.
