Our resident Trumpers have repeatedly shown that they're absolutely scared shitless of it. (They've also shown that they don't really understand what it is.)
I'll hypothesize about the genesis of Trump's statement (other than, of course, his ass, from whence all his ideas come). One of his lackeys told him what you reported earlier, that support for universal health care is rising. So that's an issue that might hurt him in the election, especially given his recent efforts to destroy Americans' health care. So he, as he so often does, floated some random statement. We know he's a stream-of-consciousness kind of guy.
We also know that only thing he gives two shits about is his reelection chances.
