The Civil War is a fascinating subject. But it isn't depicted in popular culture the way it should be--as a struggle of good against absolute evil. The boys in gray were the 19th century counterpart of the Wehrmacht.
Why isn't it depicted properly? Because a lot of people, even today, wish that the South had won and maybe they now could own a black person or two. Wouldn't see them uppity darkies VOTIN', neither.

And just for your edification, all the monuments happened much more recently. The majority of them were erected in the 1910s and 1920s---when White were reasserting their dominance over Blacks in the South with Jim Crow laws, the rise of the KKK, and lynchings.

During those 100 years, at any time, the issue of the monuments/statues could and should have been addressed in a civil manner - not in the manner that they are currently being removed by rioting liberals.

Who are the people who wave those 160 year old Confederate Flags around at all of Trump's rally's ? And what are they mad about? They weren't the ones getting whipped and engaging in forced labor.
The only ones "mad" happen to be the trouble making lying liberals. The "whipping and forced labor" PJ alludes to ended a hundred and fifty five years ago - when Abraham Lincoln took the slaves away from the DemocRat land owners. Only a hypocrit would have no problem with the burning of the Stars and Stripes , but would complain about people waving a Confederate flag. Personally, I do not own or wave a Confederate flag, but I respect the rights of those who are granted that right to do so by the First amendment.
