More proof that Liberal policies don't work.

Boiler, mental health hospitals keep the homeless people off the street. They provide dignity to those with mental health issues as they aren't forced to live on the street.

As a conservative, when you see a bunch of homeless people you should celebrate because conservatives built that. In exchange for saving a few bucks in the 1980s, you created an insurmountable problem. Although it is rather dickish to blame liberals for the problem you created.

Statistics show that around 20% of homeless people have schizophrenia. Those aren't people that you want running loose.

San Francisco has made mistakes handling the homeless.  I'm pretty sure their own local leaders would agree with that.     The tent cities along the streets are a safety hazard for a vareity of reasons - both to the inhabitants and others.     Most of the people living in them could utlize the local homeless shelter but dont because the shelter's have curfews, rules, and no privacy.

Some cities force their  homeless into the shelters and will knock down any tents that get set up.     The homeless may not like that but  its better for their safety and everyone elses'.    LA is starting (slowly) to do this.

And the current red-state abortion policy is going to add to that population dramatically.    Unwanted babies with physical and mental defects are now forced to come to full term in these states....and what do you think will happen to them when they turn 18?

They'll become MAGA warriors.

Read your first sentence and stopped.  The San Francisco Democrat leaders will not do what it takes to solve the homeless problem.  Remember, Liberal always double down on failed policy...over and over.

And what's your definition of "solve"? Drive them all out?

Candy, Abraham Lincoln realized that the true cost of the Civil War would go on for generations--thus, he founded the VA. But a century later, we didn't want to acknowledge a similar burden from the Vietnam and Korean wars. Remember Reagan's Happy Fun Sunshine Bunnies and Rainbows in America shtick? Caring for our vets didn't jive with that. So they were swept under the rug. Which helped to pay for all them shiny new GUNZ  to rattle at them Rooskies.

Yay Ronny Raygun!

No, Kevin, I don't remember that about Reagan.  I disagree with the notion that Vietnam and Korean War Veterans aren't cared for.  In my career I had many patients from WWI, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq, all of them.  No it isn't the medical system that treated Vietnam Vets badly, it was US citizens protesting against our own soldiers, escalating the anti-war sentiment from protest to blaming our own guys (remember Hanoi Jane?).  WWII vets returned to ticker tape parades and kisses (though they all suffered mentally also).  Vietnam vets returned to boos and being spit on.  They hated what they were made to do more than the politicians, who gave the flowery speeches etc. to keep it running longer.  But I digress.

It really is important for everybody, if you encounter someone who served in the military, you can't do much, but you can say, in all earnest, "Thank you for your service."  They really do appreciate it, because they didn't hear that very much, if at all, upon returning home.  Again, I digress.  Sorry.

Candy

the homeless population varies across many demographics,

11% of the homeless population are veterans.

it's not a secret that veterans from Iraq/Afghanistan have struggled getting the help they need...especially mental counseling.      Vets with PTSD have a hard time getting jobs and many have committed suicide.    The suicide rate is up 50% the last decade.

Well, Reagan destroyed the federal mental health care system for veterans...so his ultrapatriotic shtick apparently didn't include caring for them. And the homeless situation in many cities is a direct result of that. So voting for Ronny Raygun and then complaining about them LIBURRUL policies and the homeless is a special kind of hypocrisy. We've got exactly what he wanted.

I frequented a breakfast joint near an airbase when I lived in Tucson a decade ago. No one in a uniform ever made it to the cash register--someone always picked up the tab. And I hear "thank you for your service" a lot these days. So maybe the stigma is gone.
