It does seem like a disproportionate response to deploy dozens of heavily armed stormtroopers to stop anyone with a can of spray paint. I really, really, really doubt that this propagandistic show of force was employed out of tender concern for the purity of the iconic DC monuments. From a fiscal standpoint, it would be far cheaper and easier to just pay a couple of guys to clean off the graffiti.

It's clear what's really going on here. Them uppity darkies have used the Lincoln Memorial as a site for many iconic protests/speeches/performances, particularly when they were forbidden to hold such events elsewhere, so Trump is trying to take that away. Racist shit. Same old same old.

I found the doublespeak used by officials to try to justify the tire slashing both amusing and deeply disturbing at the same time.

I have also found the willingness of the police, overall, to be heavy-handed, violent, and disrespectful of peoples' rights alarming. Trump can bleat "LAW AND ORDURE" all he wants, but nobody wants to live in a fascist state--except, possibly, Trump himself--one run by him.
