Oakland Unbelievably Lost All Three of Its Pro Sports Teams In Just 5 Years

Sign of the times in California. Even professional teams are leaving the crime ridden, DemocRatic run cities. - https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/oakland-pro-sports-team-loss-athletics-las-vegas-fan-reaction?fbclid=IwAR2MDsrlHf_Z67Ye_jEiRt-R66M5uIQ51Gb2n4TlREPsDfWguvhklNccmWU

Yep, and just imagine the tax savings for the players on these the teams in Vegas.  At minimum, half of their games will be played in Nevada with no state income tax.  I just did the math, and the Raiders players will save a combined $13,800,000 in taxes this year, or about $260,000 per player.  A star earning $30 million annually would save about $2 million in taxes.

More reasons to move from California.

Uhhhhh....stoooopid Boiler...the players are taxed by the states in which they RESIDE. That won't change just because they play their games in Nevada. And they could have chosen to reside in Nevada a long time ago had they wished.

If they worked more than half the year in Nevada, they would be able to claim Nevada residency on that alone, but they don't. The amount of time they actually spend at Allegiant is less than a month per year.

Millerscum's "argument" is that those teams left because they were in California. How does he explain all the teams that are still there and are wildly successful?

Conservitards say the stupidest things!

FYI The Golden State warriors stayed in California and  moved across the bay so they didn't flee high crime or taxes. None of the teams did. The Raiders and the A's no longer wanted to play in what is considered the worst professional sports stadium in the country and they got boatloads of taxpayer money for moving to Las Vegas.

And I think it was the right call for Oakland. The idea that the taxpayers have to lavishly support billionaires and billion dollars sports ball franchises is ridiculous. Las Vegas was the only one willing to take on that sucker's bet. And everyone that's visits Vegas is going to pay higher room rates to pay off that sucker's bet. 🥂

I think pro athletes have to file in every state they play games in, as well as state they reside in.

That's true. Play a game in California and you pay taxes on the portion of your income that you earned from that game. Since roughly half of a team's games are away at least half of their players' pay will be subject to income taxes in other jurisdictions. And they already had the benefit of not paying taxes on income earned in states without income taxes

Not exactly. With a very few exceptions, every state has what's called a "reciprocal agreement" with every other state, allowing people who work in one state but live in another to either file a non-resident return in their work state or simply include their out of state income on their home state return, declaring it separately. The details, rules, and exceptions are far too tedious to enumerate here.

It's definitely not true that earning wages in Nevada will exempt you from having those wages taxed by your home state.

You do understand--in your rush to commit "confirmation bias"--that the Warriors moved from Oakland, California, to San Francisco, California.  That's across the bay, not across a state line.

They moved because Oakland is the #1 most dangerous city in California  --https://budgettravelbuff.com/most-dangerous-cities-in-california/
