Offensive sports nicknames

There a difference between a racial slur or unflattering term  and a nickname.

I suspect the Irish might take umbrage if you changed Norte Dames team to the drunken Irish....and west Virginians might not like having the Mountainers be renamed to the "inbreeders".

it's not for you to decide what nicknames are collectively offensive to the people they are aimed at.

im not the least bit offended by the term Redskin...but I'm also not a Native American so my opinion doesn't matter

Do people need to change their ways if I decide that being called "white" is offensive?  Does the world need to change.  This is nothing but a bunch of bull shit.

People must be living pretty pathetic lives when all they have to do is find something to complain about each and every day...

Aw poor baby. I can see that you're upset, but times change.

At one time "colored" was acceptable, but now it's not. And it isn't your call.

Absolutely.  In a world with many problems, whining about this stuff is so pathetic and yet, not surprising.

You've made it very clear that you find great offense when people call you or other white people "racists".

How would you feel if we changed Purdue's team to be the "racists"?

Maybe then you would understand what its like to have other people tell you what you are allowed to be offended or not offended by.

In the meantime - I thought you were boycotting the NFL anyway because you were offended.

Let's cut through the bull shit.  What team names do you find offensive?  The Saints or the Indians?

If I want to know if "Saints" is offensive, I'll ask a...Saint! If I want to know if the team name Indians is offensive, I'll ask..._____________________

(See if you can fill in the blank, Boilerman.)

I'm not offended by any sports team name.   But I do respect other peoples' requests for how to address them.

I have a work-friend whose name is Melvin.   He prefers to be called Mike because he thinks Melvin sounds nerdy.  So I call him Mike.   I dont find it to be a lot of work or something I need to get upset about and start a thread on this board.

I'm offended that black people use the word niger regularly.  I'm offended when people wear pants half way down their ass.  Many people agree with me on these topics and certainly more people than who are offended by an Indians baseball team name.  Why aren't Liberals clammoring to stop things that we're offended by?

You guys are just a bunch of whiny babies and you can't even see it.

The word  "Niger" is:

i. a republic in Northwest Africa

ii.  a river in West Africa
