Old Town Chicago.

Over the weekend, I stayed at my friends place in Old Town Chicago.  His apartment is at 1730 N Clark street and sits immediately across the street from Lincoln Park.  I took the Kennedy (aka I 94) to North Avenue, which I took to Old Town.  This 1.7 mile drive to Wells Street is mostly in Old town.

During that 1.7 mile drive, I would estimate that 80% of all businesses have close.  All of these business where open prior to the pussify and defund the police became so popular with radical Democrats.  Wells street businesses have only lost about 10% of their business.  PJ should note, since he's mentioned Second City on Wells, that the Treasure Island grocery store, which sat directly across the street from the comedy club, has closed.  This was my friend's store for his food items.

While I was enjoying a cocktail yesterday evening at Monsignor Murphy's on N Broadway, I chatted up the bartender and a couple of locals.  They mentioned that there's a cop bar in Chicago called Richards, and everyone looks the other way on smoking.  Then one of guys mentioned to the bartender, "Did you know that there was a murder in front of there during covid?", to which the bartended said that he did.

Chicago is just improving so much under this AOC type Larry Lightfoot leadership.

Of the top 15 states with the highest violent crime rates, twelve are red and three are blue.

These states are improving so much under Republican leadership. And Boilerman is the kind of Republican degenerate who thinks it's great when policemen choose not to follow democratically enacted health laws. Maybe that's the problem.

Boiler's tales of his imaginary friend in imaginary Chicago are always highly amusing. 80% of all businesses closed, and all of them because somebody, somewhere held a "Defund the Police" sign in the air? Really??

Also, you gotta love how he praises a business that flouts smoking laws, patronized by cops who don't care about the health of their fellow patrons. Maybe those cops should be defunded! (This also demonstrates how Boiler's moral compass is calibrated, as anything HE does--like smoking in public--is OK.)

Nope, it was riots, dramatically increased massive group smash and grab crowd robberies, car jackings and additional violence.  Many who live there are moving to the suburbs.

You guys can lie all you like, but it's a mess.  Go BLM!

North Ave has always been shit until you cross the river...and even there its sketchy and there's nothing  new about that.  Remember the movie Candy-Man about the undead killer who wastes everyone who lives in the projects?  That was filmed in the giant  Cabrini-Green section 8 project  just south of North Ave on the river.

Its memorable for the 16 story crack house that was Chicago's experiment with poverty in the 80's

Real estate gets more expensive the closer you get to the lake....and where your friend lives has never been unsafe.    If you are going to point to anecdotal murders, property crime, and assaults - that comes with living in the city anywhere.  And you pretending thats some kind of new phenomena thats happened since BLM went live is fundamentally dishonest.    And if you are going to blame restaurants that shuttered due to COVID on BLM then you are being even more dishinest,    I can point to 20 in my suburan zipcode that suffered the same fate.   Boilerman defines "data" as something he heard someone else say.

The bike path and beach you claimed were too unsafe to visit are anything but.  I can attest to that first hand....and so can a million Google reviewers as I've posted.

In any event - I'm thrilled you made it home alive visting the unvistable place thats too unsafe to visit  =)

We have gone over this before.  You have to look at the cities within the states & those cities usually run by democrats & they are driving the crime rate up.  Cities such as New Orleans, Baton Rouge,  St Louis, East St Louis & Cleveland have very high crime crates, even though they are in conservative states

PJ, three years ago every storefront was open for 1.7 miles.  Now 10% are open.  I've made this drive hundreds of times the past 25 years.

You guys are dicks for ignoring what has happened to this neighborhood.

Oh, Tom you couldn't be more wrong. Cities are stuck with the funds their state governments give them. The state also writes the criminal codes, and how they deal with mental illness. In red states, often a disproportionate amount of state resources go to rural areas. For example people that live in rural Mississippi are unlikely to think that funding mental health care is important which results in the mentally ill and drug addicts to be released on to the city streets.

Oh my.  The city of Chicago decided to neuter the police.  All of the sensible people said this policy would create a mess and now we have a mess.  End of story.

Now watch inflation and listen to the Liberl deniers.

You are right.....these cities just need more government funds and they will thrive......
